I may have loved this one slightly less than the first one, but love is love. Minus half a star because it dragged a tiny bit for me in the middle.
The yearning. Oh, the yearning.

Normally, I like this author and will read everything she writes, but I haven't really liked either of the books in this series.

So, I am surprised as anyone else at my rating for this book. I still really enjoy this series a lot and there were a lot of great things in this one. I don't feel like it flowed as well as the first two. Part of that is because the world is not as structured now that we are out of the Scholomance. Part is also because I spent half the book thinking that Orion was not dead while our heroine kept telling herself and others repeatedly that he was. I also give kudos for the sapphic relationship, but felt like it wasn't done well. El knows that Liesl has her own agenda, but keeps her around because she herself is touch starved and it feels good. Then once Orion is back, El recognizes that she doesn't regret being with her because she is young and logically knows that she should try being with more than just Orion, but then she says that she can only see herself with him. As soon as Orion is out of her sight, she sleeps with Liesl again. I also felt like the confrontation with her grandmother and the prophecy felt very anticlimatic.
Even with these issues, I think this was a solid ending to the series. I habe enjoyed most things I've read by Novik and will look for other books from her in the future.

It's not that I'm not enjoying the novel. I'm just not in the mood for all the angst.
