the concept for this book was wild, you definitely need a strong stomach. It’s fast paced and the writing is super sharp yet unsettling. if you’re looking for a horror book with dark shock value, this will be for you! worth the read if you enjoy disturbing horror with a take on humanity and morality but I didn’t feel a huge connection to the characters and story.

this is a really good book! it’s interesting, thought provoking, talks about systemic treatment of Black Americans and the twist had my jaw on the floor. It’s a little bit slow at the start but the ending was so worth it! I feel like I’m so easily manipulated after this book 😨👀

I love his books but this one didn’t hit for me. Most of it was really boring, i had to wait until 80% for it to get interesting and i hate that 😩 it had a good plot though, the writing just didn’t hit for me. creepy family with dark secrets trope in

well written, interesting plot, pretty original. the only negative thing i can say is that there’s some ableist things that i didn’t like, idk you can describe things without saying disability slurs 😭 but other than that i did enjoy this book and the female FMC was well written.

I love Steve Cavanagh’s books - his writing is so addictive, and he usually keeps me hooked from start to finish. That said, The Defence was pretty middle of the road for me. Honestly, it put me into a bit of a reading slump. I wasn’t reaching for it the way I normally do with his books, and I kept waiting for that moment where things would really take off. The beginning was solid - it kicked off with a lot of promise. The ending also delivered with intensity and suspense. But the middle? It dragged. I found myself constantly waiting for something gripping to happen, and when it didn’t, I lost a bit of interest. A strong opening and a strong ending don’t necessarily make for a great book if the middle doesn’t hold up.

Orbiting Jupiter is a beautifully written short story that I think will stick with me. The story of Joseph and Jack is haunting but meaningful. This is a story about how we can find love in the most unlikely places, how grief and trauma can transcend into forgiveness, and how deeply misunderstood those scars can be. I highly recommend this short story if you’re looking for someone that’s moving and will leave you feeling sad in the heart.

I can appreciate that it’s based on a true story but it didn’t WOW me 😭 this book actually put me into a reading slump 🧍♀️I just think because you’re following along and hoping they end up safe, it bored me.

this is a really GOOD novella. like really good. I loved The Perfect Child but i was disappointed how it just ended and that was it. This covers the ending that was needed from the first book so i’m gonna give it a stronger rating. I really liked how the author covered a storyline with the child Hannah & Christopher had in the first book, it was really cool having that update.

tiktok made me read this and it was disappointing. nice pacing, short subjects but the characters have 0 substance to them, the plot is just really boring i’m sorry 😭 it doesn’t get interesting until maybe 65% in and the twists aren’t THAT good, i wasn’t left feeling like “wowww”.

i mean it’s an interesting idea but this book was really weird. it’s short so it doesn’t take up much of your time but it’s really forgettable 😭 i like what she was going for but it was strange
