Recs if you like The Unmagical Life of Briar Jones...

You liked Harry Potter but you’re angry at the author for being a huge transphobe and you would like some alternatives because you don’t want to give money to her so she can finance transphobia and you have enough of Harry Potter’s racist stereotypes like Cho Chang and other problematic themes in this saga? You’re in the right place! I haven’t read all, if some are misplaced, let me know! Also, if you want more fantasy recs, I have a queer fantasy list! It is addressed to different ages.

We should all be reading queer, all year, but this list is full of upcoming queer books of all makes and models coming out in 2026. If you have a rec to add, just please keep in mind we’re looking for 2026 releases!

Fantasy books with queer rep

dark academia books with queer and trans MCs

books featuring or set in magic schools / universities / academies, aka, one of the best subgenres in existence !

this list has books for all ages (am actively looking for more adult options), most of the books are dark academia, and ALL of them are fantastical 🪄 recs welcome <3

(alternatively, books to fall in love with & share with others to help avoid supporting or promoting JKR. i will never shut up ab how the Nevermoor series deserves the popularity that Harry Potter enjoys !)

Autumn Hill is a Prairieland Defendant, sentenced to 50 years in prison for protesting outside of an ICE detention facility, in a move intended to quell all political dissent. To support her, she says “send me more messy gay fiction” especially by queer authors of color!

Books should be paperbacks, purchased new and sent directly from Amazon, and addressed to:

Johnson County Jail, TX Cameron Arnold, 202502023 P.O. Box 247 Phoenix, MD 21131

Suggestions very welcome! 🫶🏽 More info in comments!

Not a comprehensive list, definitely open to suggestions. I'll try to update this fairly often! This list features a wide variety of genres and representations!

Hii, everyone ♡ I am a very big fan of the booktuber @caricanread so I thought I would make a list of all the books she has read this year! ✰

Every year we get more and more queer books in more and more diverse genres and I for one would like to roll around in all of them from sheer joy 🙂‍↕️ since I can’t do that here is a list to metaphorically roll around in instead.

Disclaimer: all books had 2026 releases at the time of adding. The publishing industry does change things around though.

This shall become the place where I geather all the books with nonbinary representattion / written by nonbinary authors (not sure yet if both). I have not read most of them but rather have them from lists, feel free to suggest more, or report falsly added books

Notes in the margins are a must. — Me, a neurotic literature degree holder

I once wrote a short story for a school assignment and received the feedback: “it’s just too confusing to read a non-binary main character”. There’s a parallel universe where I didn’t just roll over and change their gender. Instead, I threw these books at my teacher, insisted that I just wasn’t a good enough writer yet, and demanded that a creative writing class teach me how to better integrate diverse characters rather than force me to sand down their edges to fit into prescriptive boxes.

*vibes may not be accurate

Fantasy books that feature a main character who is trans. I have not read all books on list so feel free to inform me if I've miscategorized or suggest books I should add.

🌈Happy pride month everyone! Here's a fun list featuring LGBTQ+ story's.🌈💛🩷🩵❤️💜💙

This is one of a few lists I'm making to help me organize my ideas for HRCYED 3.0. Feel free to take inspiration or comment with more ideas.
