Recs if you like The Message...

When the narrator(s) makes the book even better. For new listeners and audiobook elites, here is a range of different genres and narrators that excel at audio perfection.

Non-fiction books that should make you: Re-contextualize your place in the world. Reassess the framework of your life. Strive to be radically kind. Pursue positive change. Become an anarchist, anit-capitalist, anti-fascist, anti-racist, etc. || My list is very North American centric and I would love global recommendations ||

Books that are part memoir part another genre: in a way that blends multiple mediums and/or themes in unique and engaging ways. Magical, explosive and memorable narratives expressed with creativity and depth. Books that inspire me to write more.

this is your reminder to read books by Black authors all month, all year, every year— not just during Black History Month. it’s crucially important to be able to diversify your reading and your bookshelves. expand your mind, your perspectives, your knowledge, and your taste. if you don’t know where to start, here are some recommendations!

Books you SHOULD be reading all year

A list of books about how we remember, or avoid remembering history.

Commemoration, memorials, monuments, narratives, and rhetoric.

Philosophical, creative and social justice themes. Decolonization focused.

Considering statues, museums, journalism, books, etc. with nuance and depth.

Why we need a revolution and how we get there

Books to help understand and grapple with the current fall of the US into a fascist white supremacist autocratic state. How did we get here? Is anyone else seeing this? What do we do now? For those people who feel less panicky if they have an explanation for the absolutely baffling. Mostly non-fiction but with a few chillingly accurate fiction adds.

Non-fic on how we got here and how to sustain eachother going forwards. A mix of difficult history, revolutionary and abolitionist works, and optimistic pathworking. Decolonial and anti-imperialist at the core.

A place to see all books included in The Audacious Book Club run by Roxane Gay.

I’m not affiliated at all. I just enjoy these recommendations and wanted one place to see them all here on Pagebound.

Check out audacity.substack.com for more info! They do book discussions for the current month.

I really wanted to try and have some of the books I read be intentional choosing. I tend to be a mood reader, and I tend to heavily binge series. I have a Libro.fm account, and decided it was time to try their challenge. I'm trying to be outside my comfort zone with some of these, as well as break the rules a smidge and include some physical books I have had on my TBR a while.

Nonfiction books I've read about Palestine.
