Books that are part memoir part another genre: in a way that blends multiple mediums and/or themes in unique and engaging ways. Magical, explosive and memorable narratives expressed with creativity and depth. Books that inspire me to write more.

very obsessed with this list, i love people!
Thank you so much! Same. These kinds of memoirs make me feel very connected to humanity and all the beautiful, messy, painful and creative ways we can tell our stories
Oh it feels like a breadcrumb trail from my conversation with a friend the other day :) this is exactly what I’ve been looking for more of- many thanks!
Yay! So glad to hear that :) Hope you find some new favorites here
I don’t believe I saw bluets by Maggie Nelson on here. Freeverse poetry that reads less like poetry and more like small sentences all on the theme of blue, also highly memoir.
I also know Maggie Nelson’s The Argonauts, which I am overdue for a reread of, is both deeply personal memoir and gender theory and scholarly research, so I believe it fits.
Ps this list is wonderful and enticing!! I wish there were notes for what each is doing, I’m so intrigued! I must find out.
Thank you for the recommendations! Added :) ahh yes it would be cool to be able to leave notes about why books fit the list
oooh stunning list!! i have several of these on my tbr and now I'm looking forward to reading them even more. do you have any favorites among these books? also, have you read between the world and me by ta-nehisi coates? i absolutely adore his writing style—it's pure magic, for me and i think you would enjoy it based on the vibes of this list :)
Thank you! Ooh that book looks great I’ll add it to the list. My favorite authors from the list are Leah Lakshmi Piepzna-Samarasinha, Eli Clare, Tania de Rozario, Hannah Matthews, Amy Berkowitz, Alicia Elliott, and Sasha taqwšeblu LaPointe.
I hope if you read it that you love it! I'll move those particular authors up my TBR expeditiously 🙂↕️
