Recs if you like Necessary Fiction...

Writing and voices from outside of the white Western canon. Fiction and Non-fiction with an emphasis in diaspora, decolonization, global history, and resistance narratives from around the world. Features African, Asian, Central American, South American, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern voices.

Began with many recommendations from Jamin Anderson (@jaminanderson__ on Instagram) and has expanded with the help of the Pagebound community.

Books We Love from NPR began in 2013, always boasting over 200 books (almost 400 in recent years) featuring genres from memoirs, to cookbooks, to graphic novels, to children’s literature, to nonfiction, to novels. Check out NPR’s website to filter this massive list.

Autumn Hill is a Prairieland Defendant, sentenced to 50 years in prison for protesting outside of an ICE detention facility, in a move intended to quell all political dissent. To support her, she says “send me more messy gay fiction” especially by queer authors of color!
