Time and Time Again

Time and Time Again

Chatham Greenfield

Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Phoebe Mendel's day is never ending—literally. On August 6th, she woke up to find herself stuck in a time loop. And for nearly a month of August 6ths since, Phoebe has relived the same day: pancakes with Mom in the morning, Scrabble with Dad in the afternoon, and constant research into how to reach tomorrow and make it to her appointment with a doctor who may actually take her IBS seriously. Everything is exactly, agonizingly the same. That is, until the most mundane car crash ever sends Phoebe's childhood crush Jess crashing into the time loop. Now also stuck, Jess convinces Phoebe to break out of her routine and take advantage of their consequence-free days to have fun. From splurging on concert tickets, to enacting (mostly) harmless revenge, to all-night road trips, Jess pulls Phoebe further and further out of her comfort zone—and deeper in love with them. But the more Phoebe falls for Jess, the more she worries about what's on the other side of the time loop. What if Jess is only giving her the time of day because they're trapped with no other options? What if Phoebe's new doctor dismisses her chronic pain? And perhaps worst of all: What if she never gets the chance to find out?

well god damn. these fucking lesbians 😭😭😭
    i absolutely Adored this book.

i read it as part of sapphic september, for the chronic illness prompt. but even if i hadn't read it for sapphic september i absolutely would've picked it up.

first off, i love books where characters are described as lesbians on page. i loooove seeing the word lesbian to describe a wlw character, as i'm a lesbian. also BIG yes to nonbinary lesbian representation??? and representation for lesbians who are attracted to nonbinary folk??? chef's fucking KISS. hats off to you, Chatham.

there was so much pining and yearning from both Phoebe and Jess and it made my heart swell. it was just so fun and beautiful and earnest to see their journey back to each other from being estranged because of their parents. so glad that as older teenagers, they reclaimed that friendship (and inevitable relationship!). such healthy communication rep too, even when they were upset with each other (after a few days breathing room, of course). it's so important to communicate with anyone, but especially people you care about and are involved with romantically! i loved watching Phoebe and Jess break out of their shells and try new things and grow together.

and that ENDING. i was so STRESSED. the last 60 pages had me on the EDGE of my seat. but i truly had nothing to worry about 🥰

this book is an absolute necessity in the sapphic romance/fiction genre, DEFINITELY check it out!!

Absolutely loved the disability representation!! The love story was adorable, a fresh twist on a groundhog's day situation, and A LOT of blueberry pancakes!
