Recs if you like The Library Book...

From Sokka in ALTA to Arthur singing it isn't hard to get a library card to Libby/CloudLibrary/Hoopla controlling what we read next, the library is one of our most loved, democratic, and fundamental spaces to have. Learn about the history of libraries to why supporting now matters more than ever. Libraries are for the people; but only the people can save libraries.

microhistory: the intensive historical investigation of a well defined smaller unit of research (such as an event, community, individual or a settlement); it aspires to "ask large questions in small places"

Bibliophilia at its best - books about books, readers, libraries, bookstores!

Think of this as your reading glow up! These books will teach you to slow down, look closer, and find what authors are hiding underneath a great sentence. The goal isn't to ace an exam - it's to get more out of every book you read, feel more confident in the forums or at book club, and learn to trust your instincts as a reader. One rule: Start with the book that excites you the most, not the one that sounds the most impressive. Your future self, thriving in the forums, will thank you!!

Books don't just sit on shelves and these novels show it. Each one is its own love letter to the importance of stories in every corner of human life, built on the belief that the right book, in the right hands, at the right moment, can change the entire shape of a life. (Always taking recommendations!)

True stories of frauds, scams, and thievery. Little to no murder here! Inclusion on this list is not necessarily a recommendation.

All fiction books that appear in the Tiny Bookshop catalogue! Would sort them by genre as I read along.

Does what it says on the tin (or the back of the book?). This list is specifically about the people who make libraries work as well as libraries as a concept, but not books that only use the library as a setting for a novel (there are other amazing lists that already do that!).

Each month Reese Witherspoon picks books she loves with a woman at the center of the story.

Microhistories and niche non-fiction to make you go… huh?

Suggestions welcome

reese's complete picks- trying to read as many of these as i can... but we shall see

Many of these are directly about fire but some are also just books I like with fire in the title so you win some you lose some. Would be thrilled to hear any suggestions.

ask large questions in small spaces! avoids (but not void of) memoirs/biographies, some case studies, and the macro i'm not a historian or an expert by any means but i am salty. a lot of contemporary lists for microhistory reads contain a lot of books that are absolutely not micro. At. All. think mark kurlansky ("milk", "salt", "cod" etc.), anything that starts with "a short history of [incredibly complex geopolitical event]", or literally any historical account that spans centuries/countries/cultures/individuals. while there is definitely some gray areas and overlap, a good way to attempt to distinguish micro from the macro is macrohistory looks at how an individual/event/object/place changed and influenced the world/society/culture -- an outward expansion of one idea that proliferates time and space. microhistory is the inverse. how did the contemporary society, culture, and world change and influence a specific, tangential individual/place/event? the micro attempts to answer that! so let's reduce the scale of investigation! focus on the ones history would have otherwise forgotten if not for the diligent note takers! we're talking footnotes! anecdotes! indexes! the hot goss! EA-NASIR! macrohistory is about everyone but microhistory is about you and me baby!

From the game. Because I can't be the only one using it as an excuse to add to my tbr

Nonfiction featuring stories, mysteries and histories of librarians, archivists, booksellers, and antiquarian booksellers.

For when life feels heavy and a book-laden heaven isn't available to appease the vibes

Please comment anything I missed 🫶 :)

Books about booksellers, bookshops, writing and reading.

books I haven't stopped thinking about, books that coaxed me out of the fog, and helped my burnout

for Caitlin 💜 to be further refined self-help, manifestos, memiors, and general learning forget podcasts and random background shows, it's time for audiobooks! (I haven't read most of these so, sorry if they're bad!!)

True crime books about either stories I’ve heard retold that I can’t ever stop thinking about or the books themselves. Warning, many of these don’t have answers.
