On the night of the Parkhurst ball, someone had a scandalous tryst in the library. • Was it Lord Canby, with the maid, on the divan? • Or Miss Fairchild, with a rake, against the wall? • Perhaps the butler did it. All Charlotte Highwood knows is this: it wasn’t her. But rumors to the contrary are buzzing. Unless she can discover the lovers’ true identity, she’ll be forced to marry Piers Brandon, Lord Granville—the coldest, most arrogantly handsome gentleman she’s ever had the misfortune to embrace. When it comes to emotion, the man hasn’t got a clue. But as they set about finding the mystery lovers, Piers reveals a few secrets of his own. The oh-so-proper marquess can pick locks, land punches, tease with sly wit... and melt a woman’s knees with a single kiss. The only thing he guards more fiercely than Charlotte’s safety is the truth about his dark past. Their passion is intense. The danger is real. Soon Charlotte’s feeling torn. Will she risk all to prove her innocence? Or surrender it to a man who’s sworn to never love?

Do You Want to Start a Scandal is a fun, banter-filled regency romance with a couple who must reluctantly work together after some hijinks lead to them being found together despite the sounds of the tryst being from an entirely different couple.

I picked this one up when I was in the mood for a regency romance and remembering having a pretty good time with the last Tessa Dare book that I read and honestly I had a great time with it for about 75%. The heroine, Charlotte, is sweet and smart and refreshingly straight-forward and I liked Piers at the beginning too, as the more reluctant of the two to find out who was really responsible for the tryst that got blamed on them. And the banter between them was just so much fun!

Unfortunately, the part that sticks out to me the most is the third act breakup, which actively turned me against the hero and there was not nearly enough groveling by him to overlook the shenanigans he pulled.

Overall, I'd say that if you enjoy regency romance and more light-hearted, banter heavy interactions, this is worth picking up. Just know that the hero is a real ass during the third act breakup so your mileage may vary on how much you enjoy the ending.

Fine characters! Four stars because I prefer stories where the attraction isn’t SO immediate that they spend the rest of the book trying to deny it? Yawn! Still, the author created fun situations for them to get to know each other better.

I kept wondering, how MUCH older is Piers than Charlotte, since they mentioned it a few times? Don’t tell me it’s like 20 years...because then I would’ve wanted them to have the age difference manifest in a realistic way!

Lol is the last of my romance novel marathon...? Maybe! Still gotta read the Duke and I before the Bridgerton netflix series comes out.
