Recs if you like The Hour of the Star...

I've seen so many people say they don't read classics as they aren't diverse, and I wanted to give some suggestions that are.

This is a list of classics written by authors who are not Straight, Cis, White, and Men as the title suggests. I am also aiming to include a variety of cultures and regions in this list. If your looking for something more focused (e.g. diverse US classics) check out the lists I posted in the comments.

Suggestions are more than welcome!

Writing and voices from outside of the white Western canon. Fiction and Non-fiction with an emphasis in diaspora, decolonization, global history, and resistance narratives from around the world. Features African, Asian, Central American, South American, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern voices.

Began with many recommendations from Jamin Anderson (@jaminanderson__ on Instagram) and has expanded with the help of the Pagebound community.

literary (or literary-leaning) fiction focused specifically on isolation, disconnection, loneliness — and what they teach us about life and humanity.

ft. recs from the community!

Books that play with the "book" as a medium or are otherwise self-reflexive/meta.

My current criteria for this list are (1) does the book highlight its own textuality consistently or (2) do the metafictional elements add significantly to the themes explored or (3) does the book's use of discourse and form (e.g., narrative situation, layout) significantly differ from the norm?

Make sure to comment your suggestions with a small explanation even if you're not 100 % sure if they fit!

pink, sophisticated & sometimes fatale <3 curating the personality of my aspirations (added some essential nonfic & poetry!)

quick reads under 150 pages that are a little unconventional and not too dense, but will still fire up your brain!! to ward off a reading slump and refresh your palate.

the fragmentary novel is constructed of fragments or vignettes, typically following images, thoughts, and feelings over a sequential series of events. in a world of disruption, displacement, and of time being swallowed and spat out by the machines of capitalism and colonialism, the fragmentary novel offers an alternative structure.

title borrowed from jenny offill. recommendations welcome.

works of literary fiction that use the stream of consciousness narrative technique (popular in post-WWI modernist literature) to express the natural flow of thoughts, feelings, memories and sensory impressions.

often fragmented, unconventional, experimental in terms of structure, punctuation and syntax.

recs welcome!

classics written by women

From Patagonia to the Caribbean.

From Percy to Pessoa — a literary gauntlet wherein each book becomes progressively more complex in writing style, structure, and/or vocabulary. Percy Jackson is our baseline, and Pessoa my personal biggest fear. Selections are almost entirely unrelated by subject matter, and obviously limited by my own inexperience and preferences. Good luck!

(Listed in descending order because I did not plan far enough ahead). If you’re still unsatisfied after this, go read Kant or something.

40 women, 4 centurys, tons of countries, tons of lenguages. Some of them are worldwide famous, some are more niche, i wanted all of them to stand out for some important reason

I know i'm missing a lot of authors, this isn't a list about the best 40 women, these are just 40 women that i haven't read, and if I have read them, I wanted to read some of their least known books like in the case of sylvia Plath, or continue reading their work like with Robin Hobb or R.F Kuang. If you want to add more to this list please share in the comments
