Mangas with global cultural impact
Cultural phenomenon mangas that have become global household names over the years. All of these series have defined or impacted the animanga culture globally, in one way or another. From international movie releases, live-action adaptations, and instantly recognisable titles, these are the mangas to read if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about. Mainstream? Starter pack? Maybe, but they're pop culture icons for a reason. Believe it!
Suggestions and discussions welcome!!

The End of the World & After - But Not US-centric!
Much of the post/apoc genre is taken up by US-centric fiction, giving a very specific mindset & often a similar type of apocalypse. There's a strong focus on guns & military. Settings outside the US can provide us with unusual, diverse & interesting stories of survival
Sister list to: Zombie Apocs - But Not US-centric
Fictional settings allowed. Some books may cross borders, inc sections in the US. Allowance made for US indigenous authors
First of a series only
Suggestions welcome!

It's Different than the Anime
Manga and novels that offer more extensive storylines, different interpretations, or completely different storylines than their anime counterparts. This usually happens due to changes during the adaptation process or in the case of tie-in manga intended for a different audience than the original series.
If you're looking for manga that's better than its anime interpretation, check out my list 'Don't Watch the Anime!'

oooooooh.....look at the pretty pictures......
Notable comics, graphic novels and mangas to get into the genre. This format of books is so underrated, so I wanted to create a diverse list of notable works across the history of 'comics'! I tried to highlight nonfiction and fiction works that are recognizable to the widest variety of people (mostly because of their adaptation), while also adding less widely known books. The goal of the list is to help find at least one 'comic' you want read, if you don't really read 'comics'! (inspired by Les 1001 BDs by Trรฉcarrรฉ)
