Silver-tongued lawyer. Keeper of secrets. Breaker of hearts. He can solve any problem… In serving the wealthy power brokers of New York society, Frank Tripp has finally gained the respectability and security his own upbringing lacked. There’s no issue he cannot fix…except for one: the beautiful and reckless daughter of an important client who doesn’t seem to understand the word danger. She’s not looking for a hero… Excitement lay just below Forty-Second Street and Mamie Greene is determined to explore all of it—while playing a modern-day Robin Hood along the way. What she doesn’t need is her father’s lawyer dogging her every step and threatening her efforts to help struggling families in the tenements. However, she doesn’t count on Frank’s persistence…or the sparks that fly between them. When fate upends all her plans, Mamie must decide if she’s willing to risk it all on a rogue…

(85% = Okay, I've seen many people give this a 4 star or say the conflict is arbitrary, but right now, at 85% and before the live show, I'm feeling like the story is pretty good! Mamie has been promised to Chauncy basically her whole life, and is working hard to not fall for the family lawyer, Frank. She knows if she throws over Chauncy and declares for Frank, her father will be so mad that he'd ruin Frank's business and tell all his other rich friends to also not go to Frank. And Frank knows that Mr. Green has that ability too, and this is a big reason against their union. To me, it's not any worse than other conflicts I've read about.)

100% and after the live show:
Okay, I think the others were a little harsh. I overall liked this book and felt like the tension was pretty good. I would have liked a little more steaminess between our two main characters.
Honestly the discussion pointed out some inconsistencies in plot and weak reasoning/logic. I sort of wonder if there was originally most of a book with a different plot, and then for some reason it was reworked into its current form, and only done so-so...
Also, I'm writing this review two weeks later and I'm remembering almost nothing about this book (yikes). I want to give Shupe another chance though, and I've heard praise for the later books in this series as well as the Knickerbocker series.
