(85% = Okay, I've seen many people give this a 4 star or say the conflict is arbitrary, but right now, at 85% and before the live show, I'm feeling like the story is pretty good! Mamie has been promised to Chauncy basically her whole life, and is working hard to not fall for the family lawyer, Frank. She knows if she throws over Chauncy and declares for Frank, her father will be so mad that he'd ruin Frank's business and tell all his other rich friends to also not go to Frank. And Frank knows that Mr. Green has that ability too, and this is a big reason against their union. To me, it's not any worse than other conflicts I've read about.)

100% and after the live show:
Okay, I think the others were a little harsh. I overall liked this book and felt like the tension was pretty good. I would have liked a little more steaminess between our two main characters.
Honestly the discussion pointed out some inconsistencies in plot and weak reasoning/logic. I sort of wonder if there was originally most of a book with a different plot, and then for some reason it was reworked into its current form, and only done so-so...
Also, I'm writing this review two weeks later and I'm remembering almost nothing about this book (yikes). I want to give Shupe another chance though, and I've heard praise for the later books in this series as well as the Knickerbocker series.

This is an almost 5 star book! I loved that this was a turn of the century in NYC historical romance. Our heroine, Mamie, was a modern day (for that era) Robin Hood and our hero, Frank, was her daddy’s lawyer. I loved the early banter between the two characters and wish we had a bit more of that. It seemed that Frank quickly went from “let’s just give in to the attraction and get this out of our system” to “I’m desperate to marry you” in a matter of .26158 seconds. Like was she that good?! Come on now Frank, be reasonable lol. Also the third act squabble didn’t seem believable. Like I think Mamie truly wouldn’t be so upset. Still all around a solid read and a fresh take on the traditional London setting of historical romances! Can’t wait to read the sisters’ stories next!

I LOVED this!! Hands down my new favorite historical romance. This had everything I'm looking for from the genre - amazing characters, immersive setting, witty & charming banter, and palpable chemistry between the main couple.
I really appreciated the themes Joanna Shupe wove throughout this - mainly commentary on social class differences and women's roles at this time. Everything about this completely captivated me.
This couple was everything and despite knowing the ending (it's romance, obviously there's a HEA) I still felt concern for how this couple would make their relationship work.
I absolutely cannot wait to read the rest of this series and Joanna Shupe's entire backlist (which I've already purchased
