Linghun is an interesting exploration of grief and loss through the lives of folks in a town centered on revisiting the dead. This initial read I'm rating at 3.5 (rounding up to a 4 for GR) but honestly it feels like the kind of book I'll want to revisit again in the future.
It's more literary horror than I usually gravitate to but I found myself thinking about it a lot after finishing and appreciating the nuance and the impact of it. This version also includes a couple bonus short stories which were interesting and the audiobook is not only really well narrated, there's also a fun interview with the author explaining processes and thoughts in the stories. Definitely recommend!
Excellent writing, I started reading and couldn't stop. It was beautiful and melancholic and raw with emotion, but I also felt impatient with where the story was heading at about the 66% mark. It felt like the first half of the book had a clear and strong direction, and then lost it's clearness in that last third.
I also think I should stop reading books about grief since I haven't experienced it as of yet and can't seem to connect and understand books that are about grief.
Nonetheless, it was a really good read!
