What a woman does is open doors, it is not a question of locking or unlocking.

A collection of older, sometimes lesser-known, fantasy (or science fantasy) books written by incredible women and published primarily between the 1980s and early 2000s (with nods to a few older ones). In a time when female fantasy authors were few and far between, these authors carved out their own space in the genre. These stories might not be mainstream hits today, but they are full of brilliant magic, deep characters, and/or worlds that helped shape the genre. (First in Series / standalones only for now - open to suggestions!)

I love a good retelling. First in series or standalones. Suggestions welcome.

YA fiction retelling, inspired by, and about fairy tales, published for teens between 1990 and 2009.

Books that retell Allerleirauh, one of the quite dark Grimm's fairy tales. PLEASE check CWs for these, many of them will likely include incest, as the OG tale does.

Books I came across on tiktok All genres

before romantasy became its own genre, there were fantastical stories with romantic subplots and they are peak

requirements: -published before 2012 (first book if in a series at least) -no scifi

looking for: -more authors of color -more queer fantasy romance

Books that can be read on archive.org for free that look interesting - go and search up your tbr, this is only what I want to read so in no way a comprehensive list ☺️🌸 If you see this list after clicking on a book, you’ll know it’s available on archive.org Disclaimer: Some books are so hard to get tho because they are constantly borrowed

For books that are the same amount of whimsy, dark and alluring, but very sincere about it. Not every fairlytale retelling can summon this feeling, and not every book with this feeling is a retelling. I'm taking the "dark" part seriously so please PLEASE check trigger warnings for some of these books. I'm also accepting recs cause this is my favorite flavour of book!!!!!!
