an ongoing sapphic masterlist of books (1600+)
in progress
Basically, a huge list of every book I ever heard features sapphic characters.
I have not read all of these, so I cannot be sure of the amount of the time on page of the sapphic characters or of the quality of the books.
Some of these I do not plan to read at all, since they are not my style. If you feel like a book doesn't belong here, let me know.
For my favs / read, check out my other lists & shelves.
Open to suggestions for more titles.
Don't shoot the messenger.

weird Black girl lit
weird girl books with a Black woman protagonist! recommendations very welcome, hoping to spotlight some lesser known titles!

weird βgirlβ lit for dirtbag queers
these books are both aligned with and offer a queering of βweird girl literatureβ, a genre that manipulates horror, dark comedy, and/or surrealist elements to excavate the internal world of complex and unconventional characters. they are deviant, daring, and perverse reads for the weird queers among us.
*girl in quotation marks to allow this list to extend beyond the binary. recommendations welcome!

unbury your gays
as an antidote to the βbury your gaysβ trope, here are queers who defy death; who are reincarnated, immortalised, or escape death by the skin of their teeth. these characters may die at some point following this, but are allowed well-rounded arcs before that point.
please note that due to the nature of the list, spoilers may follow. enter at your own risk.
recommendations welcome!

Post-colonial Fever Dreams
tangled narratives and re-formed genres sprouting from the toxic ground of colonialism

letβs do the time warp again!
these books explore queer space and time, rejecting hetero temporality and spatiality across fiction, non-fiction, drama, and poetry. inside, youβll find genderqueer immortals, spirits dipping in and out of linear reality, and queer meditations on bodies and aging. recommendations, as always, are very much welcome.

queer speculative short story collections
what it says on the tin! queer short story collections (including novels broken into standalone short stories) with a speculative bent; tinges of horror, fantasy, sci-fi, dystopia and the otherwise spiritual. attempting to keep the list quite curated, but recommendations are always welcome!

magical realism: the classics & niche
my favorite genre! the grit of the everyday alongside the possibility for something more, a veil thinning, serendipity bending reality to its whimsy and beauty. this is a smaller list due the brittle nature of the genre. it's up to interpretation, but i like my magical realism on the more realistic side with very slight tints of magic/fantastical elements. recommendations are welcome!

Out of Pocket Queers
Weird, unusual, or taboo LGBTQ books that may make you slightly uncomfortable

Nigerian Books to read

You, a stranger in the city where you live
Books that capture the uncanny upside-down of that city you thought you knew so well.

"Bad Gays"
For readers who believe that not all Queer representation needs to be quote-unquote good representation for it to be valid. For readers who crave morally complex queer characters that are allowed to be just as messy as their straight and cisgender counterparts.
