A London heiress rides out to the wilds of the English countryside to honor a marriage of convenience with a mysterious and reclusive stranger. Tall, dark, and dour, the notorious Captain Jasper Blunt was once hailed a military hero, but tales abound of his bastard children and his haunted estate in Yorkshire. What he requires now is a rich wife to ornament his isolated ruin, and he has his sights set on the enchanting Julia Wychwood. For Julia, an incurable romantic cursed with a crippling social anxiety, navigating a London ballroom is absolute torture. The only time Julia feels any degree of confidence is when she’s on her horse. Unfortunately, a young lady can’t spend the whole of her life in the saddle, so Julia makes an impetuous decision to take her future by the reins—she proposes to Captain Blunt. In exchange for her dowry and her hand, Jasper must promise to grant her freedom to do as she pleases. To ride—and to read—as much as she likes without masculine interference. He readily agrees to her conditions, with one provision of his own: Julia is forbidden from going into the tower rooms of his estate and snooping around his affairs. But the more she learns of the beastly former hero, the more intrigued she becomes…

“I love you. That's the truth. The only truth matters.” —Jasper Blunt “I love you. If I didn't, perhaps all this would be easier to forgive.” —Julia Wychwood wheezing shrieking weeping sobbing wailing screaming crying throwing up. Sleeping Beauty, The Beauty and the Beast, and the story of Hades and Persephone combined? I'm totally here to devoured it. I did not expect to enjoy and to like this beyond my liking since I was doubted Julia's character in the previous novel. But this book proves me otherwise, I'm so relieved and glad for it. Well, I'm delighted to declare that Jasper and Julia had me totally enchanted. I adore how attentive, loving, and caring they are to one another. Their delight of reading and discussing books is something I cherish. I adore how they always express their emotions in an honest and transparent manner. I also find it appealing when there is a hint of dishonesty in the plot but no misunderstanding of how to handle the circumstance. Julia's character was one that I truly adored; she was sweet, lovely, and most importantly, the truest bookworm. Her bravery in standing her ground and defying her toxic, irritable parents is something I strongly value. It was more important since she was determined to follow her path and no one—not even Mary—would stop her. I also thoroughly appreciated how Jasper was patient and committed to Julia. He wasn't simply eager to consummate their marriage, he was also determined to woo her and win her. Which making me swooning, fainting, limping, throwing up ahjgjahgf. Their mutual yearning, longing, and pinning was beyond everything. Furthermore, there was a scene that made me cry, and it was all worth it when we got to the epilogue. I also wanted to express appreciation to Sebastian Brown and Ell Potter for narrating this book. I love how they were able to breathe life into the characters. Since this novel also gives us a glimpse of Anne and Mr. Hartford encounter, I found myself growing fond of them. I'm eager to see what further the author will reveal about this series. So, yes! I'll go straight to read The Lily of Ludgate Hill after this!!💥🏃🏻‍♀
