This was a good ending to the trilogy.
However...
It was too short. Okay, so I always think that about fantasy books. They deal with another world, and there is always sooo much more we can learn about it as readers. But this book was too short because it could have dealt with the difficulties in another way. The disputes were kind of rushed through, and the difficulties they met were many times solved by an ex machina. I can accept, and even like, ex machina moments from time to time, but they should not be the only way things are solved.
Don't get me wrong here. I absolutely loved this book. The relationship between Hirka and Rime is wonderfully written. Their dark sides are looked at from all angles, and we get to see sides of them that are not pretty. And they make mistakes. And some they do not own up to. Others they want forgives for. It is so gritty and intense. Often I do not wish that the main protagonist gets his or her love in the end because it is too easy, it is too obvious. But their relationship is not easy, but they are drawn to each other, a love that has blossomed over the years, and they choose each other even though it is not perfect. And they do not forgive without thinking about it.
So, the biggest flaw of the book is that it is too much pressed into too few pages. I would have liked to see Hirka live longer among Dreyri, so really get a feel of who they are and why. And I would also have liked to know more about Darkdaggar. His end was cut very short. It seemed like she rushed through the book, and it might be her downfall. Already so many love her books, but for them to live on for a long time, maybe she should have taken more time on them. The final battle was way too short, it only started when there was less then a hundred pages left. That was not enough time to have an awesome battle, solve disputes, and have a good conclusion. Now we got a kind of okay battle. I did not really understand what was going on because we did not get to read about much of it, and everything just seemed to fix itself. It was kind of the same deal in the first book. It rushed through the last pages, leaving me very confused as to what was happening.
And also,
that ending,
that did not give me closure.
It just made me hope for even more books.
Give me more books!
