Recs if you like The Book of Koli (Rampart Trilogy, #1)...

Fiction books featuring plants as a major theme. For the purpose of this list, fungi are honorary plants! All fiction genres here (though I am primarily a fantasy reader, so suggestions most welcome!)

Much of the post/apoc genre is taken up by US-centric fiction, giving a very specific mindset & often a similar type of apocalypse. There's a strong focus on guns & military. Settings outside the US can provide us with unusual, diverse & interesting stories of survival

Sister list to: Zombie Apocs - But Not US-centric

Fictional settings allowed. Some books may cross borders, inc sections in the US. Allowance made for US indigenous authors

First of a series only

Suggestions welcome!

Queer & trans stories in apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic worlds

First of a series only

Sister list to: Zombies, but make it Queer

As always, suggestions incredibly welcome!

☣

Note: Not specifically a list of good LGBTQ+ representation (though many of them absolutely are, and many are written by queer and/or trans authors!). But I haven't read all of them (yet), so this list doesn't inherently imply my recommendation, as such

♡ ₍^. .^₎⟆

My assumption is most people know about most series so these are the ones I feel are VERY unknown AND I can confirm all are excellent and worth your time

If you ask someone what apocalyptic or post-apocalyptic fiction they've read, there's a fair chance much of that list will have been written by cis men, because they're the books that get the most promotion in the genre.

My hope is that this list will help someone find a new favourite apocalypse author! ♡

Sister list to: Zombie Apocs - No Cis-Male Authors Allowed

First of a series only

Suggestions so welcome, particularly for trans, enby, & other authors of marginalised genders

ecosystemics, xenobotany, parasites, hybridities, alien worlds, mycological entities

what it says on the tin.

hello language nerds :D this list is for any sci-fi or fantasy that involves language! i wanna keep the criteria for this is pretty loose, so examples that might fit could include (but aren’t limited to):

-an author creating a new language for their story (think elvish in tolkien’s middle-earth or the belter creole from the expanse)

-an author using the study of linguistics in their story (like rf kuang’s babel)

language or linguistics just needs to play an important role in the story!
