Close Your Eyes and Count to 10. The ultimate game of hide-and-seek spirals into a fight for survival.

This was my first Lisa Unger novel, and I did not know what to expect, but the synopsis had me in a chokehold.

A page-turner from the start, this plot was not what I expected. I had assumed the plot would mainly focus on the challenge and fall more in line with the inner thoughts of the hiders and seekers, but this was not the case. Truthfully, I was a little disappointed. Each of the three contestants has hit a low point in their lives and sees this challenge as a way to overcome life’s challenges. We get a lot of backstory from Adele, one of the main characters, and bits and pieces from Cody and Milanka. I had no trouble connecting with those characters. I was eager for their journey of personal growth. However, the storyline dipped between Adele and the Extreme Team. I enjoyed Adele’s storyline and her children’s points of view, but I had a hard time connecting with the Extreme Team.

I could not get behind the Extreme Team. I had difficulty connecting with the characters and found myself wanting more from Adele’s point of view. A lot of the twists revolved around the Extreme Team; although some of the twists were predictable, I did find some moments shocking. I also couldn’t wrap my mind around the relationship between Maverick and Angeline. It wasn’t believable for me. I understood Maverick’s need for Angeline, but I couldn’t fully believe Angeline’s love for Maverick. Honestly, the whole group dynamic was odd.

I was happy with the ending. A lot was going on, but most of the questions I had leading up to that point were answered. Overall, this was a good quick read. The author had me on my toes from start to finish!

I was really looking forward to this one, but I ended up super disappointed. The game aspect, which sounded really interesting, was almost nonexistant. There were so many storylines. There was the past, the present, the future, a podcast element... It's like the author decided to throw everything at the wall to see what stuck.

By far my fave book by Lisa Unger so far!

There was alot of bouncing around and point of views but it was all needed to tell the story and keep you interested.

    So well done.
