books in which Death, or a god of Death, or the Grim Reaper (or a Grim Reaper), is personified. This list will NOT include the works of Neil Gaiman (ew)

Nobody asked, but this is my list of not-as-well-known (this is subjective) stories I consider both beautifully written and with wonderful romance. Mostly fantasy, some not. Some a lil' spicier than others.

Joining my younger self on a reread of all the books I was exceptionally obsessed with in elementary, middle, and high school to reread this year between heavier books (some of the series are very long so I’m only including first in a series)

A list of romances where death is a love interest, or at least someone death adjacent. It could be Death, reapers, gods, and even sometimes liches.

Please check any content warnings before diving in. Romance novels dealing with death as a character tend to be well represented in all types, so not everything here may not be for everyone
