But when the man shows up on her doorstep, he is nothing like she expected—he is a young, handsome heir to a dukedom who suddenly threatens everything she holds dear. He only cares about duty… Constantine Sinclair arrives on the Langley doorstep in a desperate bid to save the woman who raised him, the Duchess of Birchwood … only to discover that the venerable doctor he expected is a bold and lovely charlatan. Furious at the deception, he vows to reveal her secrets. Determined to prove her skills, Nora promises to save the duchess in exchange for Con keeping her secret. Con reluctantly agrees… and soon Nora’s brilliant, headstrong ways are throwing his carefully controlled life into chaos. What happens when the rigid soldier begins to lose his grip on his heart?

Nora is a healer, who trained with her father. Once her father passed away, she continued to write to individuals who sought her father’s advice. Constantine (Con) had a regular correspondence with Nora while he was in the military. Now that he is unexpectedly the heir to the Duke of Birchwood, he seeks out Dr. Langley to help the Duchess of Birchwood. He is less than thrilled to discover he has been duped into thinking Nora was in fact her father and vows to expose Nora. Nora knows the only way to stop Con is to follow him to London and help the Duchess of Birchwood. Once Nora follows Con to London, they are often in each other’s presence and neither one can deny the attraction they feel!

I love this book. Nora is a fantastic character and I felt very seen reading this book. I anticipate many readers viewing Nora as complacent, but I’m ready to argue! There are times in this book where Nora rightfully defends herself, but there are also times she backs away. I didn’t see this as her not being strong, I saw this as Nora choosing her battles. Self-confidence is definitely at play here, but she took a stand when it mattered and I admire her for it!

Nora walks this very strange line between not being accepted by the aristocracy and not being accepted by the medical community. She often, rightfully, feels like she didn’t belong – and I say rightfully, because she deserves better than either group is willing to give her! Con is the perfect match for Nora. He is struggling with his “duty” to the Duke and Duchess of Birchwood, but never once does he want Nora to be different. Also, he is willing to be a medical guinea pig and test the tonic her sister claimed to be an aphrodisiac. Spoiler – it is!

The epilogue of this book is fantastic, because it’s Nora’s dream coming to fruition (ten years later). I have loved reading the three sisters and how each one of them was affected as each sister found her path! This book was a balm to my soul, as most books written by Sophie Jordan are.

3.5 stars. This one was ok for me, I enjoyed reading it but wouldn't pick it up again. Con and Nora had an interesting and fun meet cute. But after their initial meeting, where they did not get on at all, there wasn't a lot of time together before they decide on their own they are into each other.

There is a scene where Con takes Nora to a local hospital to watch a surgery, which is great. He understands she's 'not like other girls' and offers to do something he knows she will love. That was great, and after that they each decide they like the other even though they don't admit it. There are some minor obstacles to get over, Con's sort of girl friend who is lovely and his jerk Uncle and the threat of 'society' being upset a Duke is marrying another Duke's sister-in-law (?). Also getting over Con's terrible proposals was a manufactured hurdle.

When they finally bang it out, its... nice? I dunno, I'm talking myself down in stars now that I'm thinking about it more.
