As Anat convinces her to spend the rest of her life wed to her family’s greatest enemy, it is up to Jayd’s sister Zan—with no stomach for war—to lead the cast off warriors she has banded together to victory and rescue Jayd. But the war does not go at all as planned…In the tradition of The Fall of Hyperion and Dune, The Stars are Legion is an epic and thrilling tale about familial love, revenge, and war as imagined by one of the genre’s most imaginative new writers.

I spent about 50% of this book extremely confused and then about 40% mostly confused. That 10% at the end were I finally understood was nice. It was good enough for me to finish, but not without a lot of mental effort to get back into it each time I put it down.
There were so many things that were done well here, I absolutely love the all female world, it never felt forced and was a cool idea. I really liked the character of Zan. She was figuring out who she was and allowing herself to change from the old person she was (it helps to not remember your past when you do that). The world building was cool, so different from most sci fi metal worlds, the organic nature of the ship/world was different, gross, but compelling also. Also I’m proud I guessed about Zan being Lord of the Mokshi.
And yet, not knowing wtf was happening with so much going on in world that we (and Zan) were thrown into without warning was hard to follow and difficult to get into. This story was so much bigger than the book allowed it to be and I’m disappointed by that.
