Recs if you like Sorcery of Thorns...

Standalone fantasy books that won't make you invest your life in a dozen installments

fantasy murder mysteries yayy

Fantasy romance and romantasy with at least one MMC who doesn't fit the Shadow Daddy archetype in one way or another.

I'm talking genuinely kind and caring heroes, nerdy or academic interests, or a body type that isn't tall and jacked. (No climbing these men like trees here!) Only men who are sad wet cats, sweet cinnamon rolls, or pathetic losers allowed 💖

Inspired by buttercheese69's forum post on the topic.

I'm sure some of these are already on your TBR, so might as well add some more! Let me know if I am missing any of your favorites!

You liked Harry Potter but you’re angry at the author for being a huge transphobe and you would like some alternatives because you don’t want to give money to her so she can finance transphobia and you have enough of Harry Potter’s racist stereotypes like Cho Chang and other problematic themes in this saga? You’re in the right place! I haven’t read all, if some are misplaced, let me know! Also, if you want more fantasy recs, I have a queer fantasy list! It is addressed to different ages.

Books that inspired or are similar to Studio Ghibli films

Maybe the people are magical, maybe the library is. Maybe these aren’t as fictional as they seem.

Recommendations encouraged!

Many of these are the beginning of series, but all of them are about academics in fantasy settings. All cross genres are welcome.

As a tall-ish girl myself, every time I come across an FMC who is described as tiny, I yearn a bit more for some tall FMC representation — we can be love interests too! 🥹😍 So I made this list of (mostly romance and fantasy) books with a tall FMC. Whether she is taller than her partner, or they are somehow EVEN TALLER than her, all is welcome here 🫶

I haven’t read every single book on this list, so please correct me if I am wrong somewhere. More book recs super appreciated!!! 🤍

Stories to read curled up warm and cosy while the weather is grey and stormy, blustery and bleak. Or. just when you want a fantasy that’s both dark and cozy!

we love a man who yearns in this house

Perfect for fantasy lovers with not enough hours in the day!

Feel free to mention any I missed in the comments 😊

It's not quite epic. It's not quite cozy. It's somewhere in between—and usually hilarious!

Fantasy books that are too dark/exciting to be cozy, but too lighthearted to be fully epic.

I love reading romances between men and women where one or both of the characters are bi because it shows the potential of bi people to fall in love with any gender, if that makes sense. So often bi people in “straight” relationships don’t get clocked as LGBTQ+ and I like seeing how they make a “straight” relationship queer. It’s also nice to read about LGBTQ+ outside of achillian and sapphic stories and spaces. I’m always on the hunt for more.

books for the barbie movie lovers

frilly men who simp. (these often end up being fae or highborn gentlemen, but don’t have to be.) …my favourite kind of love interest

you wanna catalogue the books, you say? translate? reeaaaaaadddd? (mundane and magical libraries/archives in fantasy, yum yum yum)

romances across genres where at least one of the main characters works as a librarian

Want to get into fantasy but never read/only read a bit and don't want to read anything too complex? These books and series have light worldbuilding, magic systems, and are overall good introductions to those new to fantasy. The majority of these are more YA due to the nature of entry-level fantasy

books with bisexual characters (even if they end up with the opposite sex THEY'RE STILL BI)
