It's not quite epic. It's not quite cozy. It's somewhere in between—and usually hilarious!
Fantasy books that are too dark/exciting to be cozy, but too lighthearted to be fully epic.

I wonder if Masters of Death by Olivie Blake would be a fit. It's maybe a bit more character-focused than epic, but it's definitely super funny.

Noted!! I’ll look into it! 💕
Ooohhh this is a great one!! I feel that The Devil's would fit nicely among this theme!
Suggestion for your consideration: The Dark Lord's Guide to Dating (and Other War Crimes) by Tiffany Hunt! I have been referring to it as Assistant to the Villain's darker, spicier older sister.

Haha I’ve read it and was trying to decide whether it went on here! I’m kinda mulling it over but it probably will. I enjoyed it a lot! Assistant to the Villain was an insta DNF for me.
I keep reading the Assistant to the Villain series even though I have never given it about a 3 - I think it's because I wanted it to be more like The Dark Lord's Guide soooo maybe I don't have to push myself through that series anymore haha

Totally get it. Have you read Long Live Evil yet?
👀👀👀👀 I have not but I have a sneaking suspicion it's about to be added to my TBR

So it's like one more step towards epic fantasy than Dark Lord's Guide. Basically no spice (little bit of steam) but still very fun. Dark Lord Davi is also great because it's bi rep where the FL pines for an orc muscle mommy...
a yoink here and a yoink there... don't mind me just doing some yoinking!
so many titles on my tbr here 👀👀

I’ve read all of these and can vouch. They’re great lol
yay that's great! which was your fav (or favs)?

Oh damn uhh that’s really hard 😭 they’re all good just great for different moods. If I have to pick then…
ooh i think i have the uprooted paperback, so maybe i'll start with that first! i've been meaning to read some naomi novik anyway. ty for the recs 🫶🫶
