whenever i read a romantasy series like fourth wing, crowns of nyaxia, i feel like there's too much swearing to the point where the words lose all meaning. i kind of understand the intent behind the usage by the author, but the words just lose their impact when they use them so often. a girl can only read the word "fucking" so many times y'know? anyone else feel like this? any romantasy or fantasy with a side of romance recs where swear words aren't all over the text like sprinkles on a cake? edit to clarify: swearing naturally is great! but every other sentence i canāt do it šš

as the title suggests, i really want to get into classics and recently came across this one version of picture of dorian grey that shows the places itās been censored and changed and that peaked my interest. but because it was over Ā£250 i passed on it. š
i also tried reading danteās inferno because i wanted to read katabasis and she recommended them as good to know reads. as you can tell, i was thoroughly confused and lost.
im an immersive reader and at this point i absolutely neeeed audiobook to get into the story. its so much better that way (for me).
can someone whoās into classics recommend me where to start, which translations to start with (and are easily accessible in both audiobook and physical/ebook versions)? iām not particular on a specific one since clearly i donāt know shit. š¹
please drop your recommendations below, iām extremely grateful for any advice. šš«¶

Looking to get an ereader since a lot of them are going on sale currently. Though I do want to stay away from Amazon and all off that. So Iāve been looking into the Nook and Kobo.
From what Iāve seen for both, reviews are all over the place, and some are rather nitpicky.
Anyone here have either a nook or a kobo? Which would you recommend?
Edit: It appears that everyone is loving the Kobo. Looks like Iāll be looking into getting one. Thanks for the help! ā¤ļø

really good short story to start with if you're just starting to get into reading classics. very fun to annotate.

Iām in med school so I donāt always find a lot of time to read throughout the school year BUT I finally have 3 weeks of break. The amount of books I have on my list to read over break is ridiculous and not likely so I fear I need to prioritize my reading. How could I categorize or order them so that I get to the best ones? Any tips are appreciated!!! (When I say itās unlikely I mean I have like 50 books on this listš¬)

Iāve been looking at the books Iāve read in the past 2-3 years and the majority of them are contemporary romances. While I have nothing against the genre, Iām planning to branch out to ones I havenāt read as much such as sci fi, horror and lit fic. Anyone else has a similar goal and if so, which genre (new to you or you havenāt read as much) do you want to explore more next year?

Iām feeling curious about the idea of keeping a physical reading journal in the new year. I want to slow down my reading tendencies and make sure Iām spending time with the things I read and actually thinking on them instead of falling into some low-retention binge-read tendencies Iāve noticed in myself this year. I also really want to try to spend more time off my phone and leaning into analog hobbies- Iām online entirely too much in spaces that add so little to the rest of my life (not PB, itās nice here š)
The thing is Iāve never been a consistent journaling type in any way. Personal thoughts, dream diaries, art and creative projects, practical planning- I always struggle and I never feel like a hit a rhythm enough to find it meaningful & keep up with it. I struggle with routine building and self structuring in general and even though Iām a artsy type, Iāve unfortunately never felt drawn in by the crafty customization angle to journal-keeping either.
If anyone to whom this kind of thing doesnāt come easily for has any advice- Iād love to hear other folksā ideas. Thanks pals š¤š»

I currently have a kindle that is 10+ years old, and it works just fine. However, I find that I don't use it too often since I have a long physical tbr. I'm thinking of buying a kobo instead, mainly for the libby integration, but I've heard many different experiences based on where people are based. Do you kobo users recommend getting one, and how does Libby work? I really don't want to support amazon...

I'm in the weirdest reading slump when it comes to Fantasy/Romantasy which is usually my favourite genre.
But for about a year now, I will get to 70% of a Fantasy/Romantasy book and just don't want to continue reading. Like the book won't be bad, there won't be any reason to DNF, I just don't want to continue reading. I'll be motivated to read but the moment I begin, I get insanely bored.
Are there any fixes for this?
I've tried different formats, that's not helped
I've been forcing myself to finish these books. Other genres, I can read fully with no issue š¤Æ

Do you prefer reading print books or digital versions? Paperback or hardcover? Ereader/eink display or laptop/phone/whatever? Why?
I'm wondering because I kind of want to prefer reading print books, and for the most part I do unless on the go, but today is one of those days where I struggle with print but can easily read digital. Why? Who knows!
Can be a bunch of different reasons, from "the book is unwieldy and heavy" or "I don't like the feeling of the pages" to "the typeface is annoying and it's dark and non of the lights I have are compatible with the position I want to read in". Today it's partially because I have a cold and have lost my place in my book multiple times because I had to sneeze and accidentally closed the book. Fun!
Now I'm considering buying the digital versions of my print current reads but at the same time really don't want to because I hate annotating ebooks (I'm using a German ereader brand and highlighting things/annotating them is an absolute mess, especially on my older ereader model) and I was looking forward to marking up all the fun passages.
So, instead of reading anything, print or digital, I'm now procrastinating and was wondering: Which do you prefer and why? Do you switch between them? Or do you prefer listening to audiobooks (which I can only do in the car or while exercising/otherwise occupied or I will get distracted and miss whole chapters)?
