Okay. While Cinder left me excited for Scarlet I am officially dying for Cress.
The thing is that I actually enjoyed Scarlet more than I did the previous book (which was great). I immediately connected with Scarlet as a character, while it took me a while to warm up to Cinder. But even Cinder is improved in this installment. She's more of a go-getter, and has developed a boldness she lacked in the first book. She's also found herself a hilarious (and hot) accomplice in "Captain" Thorne, who reminds me of a slightly less insane sci-fi version of Jack Sparrow. (I'm thinking that Thorne will be the love interest of Cress in the next book. Fingers crossed that I'm right!)
But back to Scarlet, because though Scarlet moves Cinder's (and Kai's) story along, the book really belongs to our Little Red Riding Hood-esque heroine. She's hot, she feisty, she loves her grandma, and she shoots people. What more could you ask for? Wait wait wait I know--an equally hot street fighter! Who has sharp teeth and acts like a wolf and btw his name is Wolf how cool is that.
If there was anyone I liked more than Scarlet, it was Wolf. Yet another painfully attractive fictional character. If there was anything I shipped more than Wolf/Scarlet, it was Wolf + blood. But yes: the romance here is compelling. Moreso, I would argue, than that between Cinder and Kai. While I love the latter pairing, they haven't really had enough time together to sell it to me. Kai's chapters were well-appreciated, however. I adore the guy; what a sweetheart.
I appreciate the fact that once again, Meyer developed the world around her characters. We're introduced to a new country and given more of a peek into the Lunar world--and I've got to say, I hope we'll soon meet some more characters who were raised there and aren't totally evil because... I don't know how Cinder is going to govern these folks. I mean, you meet a nice one every now and then, but again--it's really an every now and then kind of occasion.
Marrissa Meyer took all the good things about Cinder and amped them up. If you liked the first book of the The Lunar Chronicles, I don't know how you could be disappointed in this one.
I have to wait another year? I sincerely enjoyed this book. I love the storyline, though it is a bit predictable. I recommend you read the short story [b:The Queen's Army|16075962|The Queen's Army (Lunar Chronicles, #1.5)|Marissa Meyer|http://d.gr-assets.com/books/1349734763s/16075962.jpg|21871423] before this.
I liked the plot a lot and this was better paced than Cinder. However, I really don’t like Wolf
Probably my favorite in the series. Scarlet is a spitfire! And I’m a sucker for a big tough guy that is also sweet and protective. That lab to wolf energy.
This book was a lot better than I had expected. I also enjoyed it so much more than Cinder, it was definitely worth it to conti he with the Lunar Chronicles series. There was, at least I experienced so, much more action in this book. Also, it felt like this story was much more fast paced. With this cliffhanger, I'm so curious what the rest of this series will bring me!
I'm getting reminded (again) on why I love this series so much
Scarlet is a definite improvement from Cinder. The crew is slowly assembling. Scarlet and Wolf are a delight. Thorne's charm and Cinder and Kai's dry humour make this a very entertaining read. This is my 3rd time reading the series and I find myself enjoying it even more than the first time around.
