Recs if you like Revolutionary Girl Utena, Vol. 1: To Till...

Another resource for those looking for butches in books.

Disclaimer: I do not necessarily recommend all of these books. Please check out my page for reviews of the ones I’ve read!

LGBT*+ graphic novels / comics / manga +

Fluff to smut, including 18+ etc aka not exclusive to anything specific other than being queer content (queer & queer-rep inclusive stories). I have read a good handful of the ones now at the bottom of the list. Includes intended middle-grade-ish-level youth content to adult audience content.

In progress / updated over time. Mostly serving as an all-in-one-spot list until Pagebound figures something out that works well for multi-genre/format exploration. :)

(recs highly welcome) Attempting a highly exhaustive list.

Cultural phenomenon mangas that have become global household names over the years. All of these series have defined or impacted the animanga culture globally, in one way or another. From international movie releases, live-action adaptations, and instantly recognisable titles, these are the mangas to read if you want to sound like you know what you're talking about. Mainstream? Starter pack? Maybe, but they're pop culture icons for a reason. Believe it!

Suggestions and discussions welcome!!

Sapphic books where one or both of the main characters is a knight or a bodyguard.

Yes, the blonde/pink/purple hair IS necessary in becoming an insatiable girl* kisser.

Manga that I feel in my soul is subtextually or explicitly queer.

that subgenre of historical yuri and sapphic historical fiction that features feminist themes (wip)

If you like magical girl media, you'll probably like these books. These books either give off magical girl vibes or are fully magical girl fiction.

Only including manga that ISN'T explicitly in the magical girl genre (since those are much easier to find)

Manga that was adapted to anime in the 90s that defined a decade.

every single yuri series i could think about (and find on here) some light novels are included too :) recommendations are welcome!

A collection of the most influential shoujo manga from the 90s. Magical girls were big, but there's more than that! ⚠️WIP, I'm happy to add any suggestions!

Note: I'm including volumes with their first publication or serialization date in Japan in the 90s. Some may have been published into the 2000s, or they may not have been officially translated until later.

in shoujo manga/anime, the “crimson rose and candy” archetype historically features romance between a confident, alluring “crimson rose” (often with high-contrast, dramatic or gothic features and aesthetics) and a more feminine, blithe “candy” (often with low-contrast, airy or pink features and aesthetics). while these stories in yuri originated as queer coming-of-age tragedy, i love identifying similar polarity frameworks in my favourite lesbian/sapphic novels alongside its various subversions!

Manga that defined my girlhood

Books and Comics that center around at least one character that has some gender fuckery in some direction and are also fantastic stories. The character will either be the main character or a very important side character in the main cast that has a good chunk of story. This list spans genres, mediums, and cultures. This is in no way a complete list, but I have personally read all of them and give them all a full thumbs up

a list of a 99 manga's incl. ; some classic must reads , all kinds of genres to try , old and new

try out all of them to maybe find some new faves

put that woman inside a blender. or books about women suffering through one plot horror to another with little to no wins. (recs are welcome!)

Ah, manga. Enjoyed by the old and young alike!

Let's look back over the years, from classic titles like "Sazae-san", to current reads such as "Kimetsu no Yaiba" (Demon Slayer).

I'm hitting up the oldies first, so feel free to leave suggestions in the comments as I slowly add titles!

Some listed here may be for a language other than English, so these will be placeholders. If you dont see some here, then it may not be on GR or I just added interesting one due to space.

Space for 16 more!

I just think they’re neat

a diamond can never be too shiny ̊.⋆꒰১ ໒꒱⋆. ̊ i simply adore high-spirited, high-maintenance heroines. she doesn’t need to be able to swing a sword herself to deserve her handsome saviour! this is a very sapphic list simply because that’s what i read—all recommendations welcome!
