Could you survive on your own in the wild, with every one out to make sure you don't live to see the morning? In the ruins of a place once known as North America lies the nation of Panem, a shining Capitol surrounded by twelve outlying districts. The Capitol is harsh and cruel and keeps the districts in line by forcing them all to send one boy and one girl between the ages of twelve and eighteen to participate in the annual Hunger Games, a fight to the death on live TV. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen, who lives alone with her mother and younger sister, regards it as a death sentence when she steps forward to take her sister's place in the Games. But Katniss has been close to dead before—and survival, for her, is second nature. Without really meaning to, she becomes a contender. But if she is to win, she will have to start making choices that weight survival against humanity and life against love.
fun fact: in the Italian translation, Glimmer's name was translated as Lux. I get why, even if I do not agree with changing names like that, since Lux means light in Italian (it's luce in italian). I didn't remember this at all. Maybe because the last time I reread this I read it in english.
"because..... she came here with me" I love you so much Peeta, you are insanely smart and manipulative. Katniss is so oblivious here because she doesn't know and is scared to trust anything. Partly because she's had to care for her sister and mom since her dead died, so she can't have more people count on her, but also because she is deeply caring and won't risk losing another person that's close to her. It's just self-preservation. I sometimes wish we could have a Peeta pov, because I want to know the moment he truly fell for her, and when he knew it.
I'm gonna enjoy rereading this. I think this is the 3rd time? Can't remember. *I volunteer as tribute* still got chills Peeta burning and throwing the bread. Precious.
