Recs if you like The Hunger Games...
Listening Is Reading
When the narrator(s) makes the book even better. For new listeners and audiobook elites, here is a range of different genres and narrators that excel at audio perfection.
Quest Thirst ๐ฆ (100+ Books under multiple quests)
Books that are part of 3 or more quests โจfor easier planning! Initially thought of making this on my shelf, hope the members of pb find this helpful!! (The list is incomplete, I'm working on checking & adding new quest books๐๐ป thanks for the love โค๏ธ๐ฅน)
Finally some good fucking worldbuilding
SFF with worldbuilding that informs the plot, prose, characters, and underlying narrative in deeply meaningful, intentional, and complex ways, so much so that changing the world means changing the shape of the story itself. Or: worldbuilding that goes beyond simple set dressing and becomes a vehicle for the story and narrative. Always open to recs and suggestions! โค๏ธ
Hey! Who put their leftist politics in my fiction?
Need a gift for your extremist family member, but they already have a red baseball cap AND a Don't Tread on Me shirt? Were you told "Don't bring up politics at family dinner" and need some safe books to discuss instead? Well we have a full menu for you to choose from! Each just for fun book comes with our guarantee: No real world political messages under the 100% fictional plot! ๐ (Taking Recommendations!)
You mean the government is bad?
A list of books with corrupt, evil, or just downright bad governments! I'm not sure how I ended up reading so many of these types of books (prob my love for dystopia) but here I am haha. Most of these will prob include taking down said evil government. I will update this list as I read more books with bad govs.
Pagebound User Book Cameos
For when your PB friends share the same name(s) as a book character! (See pinned comment for master list! Please feel free to chime in if you want to be added and/or if you want a different book assigned to you; I didnโt want to step on toes and add people I havenโt really talked to without their permission โค๏ธ also my brain is smooth and I forget book character names all the time lol)
POV: youโre at a thrift store
Books you will find on any given thrift store shelf in the US, for better or worse ๐ For books in a series or by prolific authors, Iโve only included one book so as not to overwhelm the list.
Suggestions welcome!
I think it goes without saying but just in caseโฆ Iโm not necessarily recommending these books by having them on this list. (In fact I wouldnโt recommend many of these.) This is for fun!
โThe government wouldnโt do thatโ
โOh yes they would.โ
Reading is ALWAYS political!
Feel free to recommend your own in the comments (fiction and nonfiction) and letโs create a list of books about people + systems + power !! Would love any recs to diversify this list too, knowledge is power people !
the allegory is political
a collection of novels that use allegory, dystopia, and satire to examine power, control, propaganda, surveillance, and the fragility of truth. blurring the lines between fiction and reality, these stories reflect the political anxieties of both their own eras and ours.
as always welcome to suggestions !

The World Is Hell But They Aren't
This is a list for those of you that love dark fantasy (dying gods, monsters in the woods, that kind of thing), but you also have a soft side for softies. These books still have that grim atmosphere, but they also have characters who are green flags. Someone who asks permission, protects without smothering, or just does the right thing when no one else will.
ultimate 2010s school bus dystopia
[BREAK GLASS IN CASE OF SOCIETAL COLLAPSE]
Dystopia-core library books you inhaled in middle school on the bus so you could talk about them during lunch period.
Or: books that had an entire generation of kids convinced they were going to develop powers and be taken to a secret government facility
Lucy Dacus Recommendations ๐
Books recommended by musician Lucy Dacus, a solo artist and member of the band boygenius. Pulled from her goodreads list.
Teenage Millennial Memories Unlocked ๐๏ธ
Allow me to set the scene:
Itโs 2 AM on a school night but you only have 100 pages left. You will power through. Forget the math test you have first period. This is your priority. And you must know how the book ends.
I donโt know what sort of millennial catnip these 2000s YA authors put in these books, but let me tell you, my โbaby millennialโ self was addicted.
Pagebound Millennials: what YA were you reading?

Profit > People
Fictional stories. Real consequences. Profit > People is dedicated to books with capitalist critique, focusing on the lives - and bodies - sacrificed at the altar of industry and interest. Always taking recommendations!
characters that haunt the narrative
I'm including books where a character's presence is minimal and every character, conflict, and theme leads back to them. Their absence feels loud. Their past decisions shape the present.
Open for recommendations that meet these parameters ๐ I haven't read all the books in this list but feel fairly confident about their inclusion here, if you believe one of these doesn't fit feel free to discuss in the comments
a man who yearns is a man who earns
books where the man has so much patience it'll make you question your self control
Sisters Across Genres
books where sistersโ love, hatred, or general angst towards each other is a main factor in [making you cry]/furthering the plot. Including classics/popular fiction, but particularly taking reccโs for standalone/underrepresented genres/nonfiction!!

I think Pagebound quests should be enjoyed at your own pace, reading whatever piques your interest. That being said, here's a list of books that are included in multiple quests. This list is a work in progress and suggestions are welcome :)
