Books where a main character is not entirely human and/or is an alien, monster, spirit, eldritch horror, etc. who has disguised themself as a human. Do they want to be human? Or do they want to eat humans? Or some secret third thing? Who knows? You decide. (Please comment your suggestions!)

Here's a pile of books that our rec list contributors love that feature non-binary representation (some explicit, some subtextual/interpreted - so your interpretation may differ, and that's okay!). (This list is presented by Duck Prints Press, the indie publisher focused on publishing queer art and stories by queer creators! A group of us collaborate to make these recommendations.)

✧ [现代]: a sub-genre in danmei that sets its narratives in the contemporary era. the themes in this sub-genre are the most diverse; from sci-fi [科幻] to slice of life [日常向] going through criminal investigations [刑侦], all of them always revolve around the love story of the two main characters.

(personal list of danmeis i have read or am currently reading)

Danmei books feature romantic relationships between male characters. Some danmei take place in a modern setting but it's much more common to see historical fantasy danmei. Read the comments for more details about the books.

Books and Comics that center around at least one character that has some gender fuckery in some direction and are also fantastic stories. The character will either be the main character or a very important side character in the main cast that has a good chunk of story. This list spans genres, mediums, and cultures. This is in no way a complete list, but I have personally read all of them and give them all a full thumbs up

Non-human romances (one or both partners), fantasy, dystopian, alien, and paranormal. Always open to suggestions!
