My name is Katniss Everdeen. Why am I not dead? I should be dead. Katniss Everdeen, girl on fire, has survived, even though her home has been destroyed. Gale has escaped. Katniss's family is safe. Peeta has been captured by the Capitol. District 13 really does exist. There are rebels. There are new leaders. A revolution is unfolding. It is by design that Katniss was rescued from the arena in the cruel and haunting Quarter Quell, and it is by design that she has long been part of the revolution without knowing it. District 13 has come out of the shadows and is plotting to overthrow the Capitol. Everyone, it seems, has had a hand in the carefully laid plans—except Katniss. The success of the rebellion hinges on Katniss's willingness to be a pawn, to accept responsibility for countless lives, and to change the course of the future of Panem. To do this, she must put aside her feelings of anger and distrust. She must become the rebels' Mockingjay—no matter what the personal cost.

After reading these fast-paced thrillers, other books are seeming dull. Not the most literary YA I've ever read, but certainly some of the most gripping.

this read was better than the other 2 times i read this, and i found myself liking it more this time. i used to think it was the “boring one” of the three, but i think i just understood more of the underlying stuff i guess. i now could come back to this book again like the other 2 :)

I got much more out of this book the second time around (which makes perfect sense considering the first time I read this book in like 3 hours at probably 2 am...).
It was sad, overall, and there was so much death and destruction in this war. I'm impressed that it was all included--that though I believe this is a series for YA/teens I liked that Collins was realistic by including death and torture for many main characters. I guess that sounds odd that I'm happy there was death, but I would have been annoyed if all the characters you grew to like over the series all survived.
Anyway, it was very enjoyable this second time around (finished 1/27/12).
