Arrows and Apologies (Monsters & Muses, #4)

Mayor Alistair Wolfe had one job: hire a new assistant. Preferably, someone who would look good in the position and not cause any scandals. At least, that’s what the criminals funding his career want. He definitely wasn’t supposed to blackmail his one-night stand into working for him. Especially considering that she’s a blue-haired, tattooed thief with an attitude. Cora Astor wasn’t looking for a relationship. She wasn’t even really looking for a job, but having an in with the mayor of the island where her brother went missing seemed like a good idea. She didn’t expect her new boss to be the hot, British stranger she hooked up with the night before her interview, or for him to be so brazen with his desires. Now, despite her disdain for the dirty politician, she’s entwined their lives so tight that escaping seems unlikely. Not that he’d let her go without a good chase.

And now this book is done.

I read the trigger warnings before I started, just so I knew what I was getting into, and I forgot pretty much immediately what one of them was. Until the last few pages of the book. As soon as I remembered, I knew what was about to happen.

It pretty much went the way I thought. Marshall was sus from day one, Hollis and Lucian were the same person, and the meeting between Cora and Alistair was not as coincidental as originally thought.

I was honestly expecting the worst for Cora and Alistair since this story was supposed to be based a bit off of Apollo and Daphne. Considering how that whole thing ended, I was truly expecting the worst. But I shouldn't have worried. Considering this series, I knew there had to be some way things would still work out for them. I loved their dynamic. Even though they were complete opposites, they still blended so well together.

Next will be Cash's story, Lenny's older brother. I'll be curious to see who he's paired off with. From Lenny's POV in the previous book, he definitely isn't the cold type he was first presented as. He's got a soft spot for his younger sister and it's clear he doesn't view his family in the best light. Not that that will be a problem for him.

I can't wait to see the world through his eyes. I think that's one of the most fun parts about this series. You meet a character who ends up being a main player and get their POV in one of the following books, seeing the world through their eyes and seeing how they view their relationships. For instance, when seeing things from Jonas's POV, you don't really notice how much Alistair treasures and looks out for him. But then when you look through Alistair's head, you truly see just how much he is doing to keep his little brother safe. I love seeing that and I can't wait to see how Cash sees the world.
