Cinderella goes to the con in this fandom-fueled twist on the classic fairy tale. Part romance, part love letter to nerd culture, and all totally adorbs, Geekerella is a fairy tale for anyone who believes in the magic of fandom. Geek girl Elle Wittimer lives and breathes Starfield, the classic sci-fi series she grew up watching with her late father. So when she sees a cosplay contest for a new Starfield movie, she has to enter. The prize? An invitation to the ExcelsiCon Cosplay Ball, and a meet-and-greet with the actor slated to play Federation Prince Carmindor in the reboot. With savings from her gig at the Magic Pumpkin food truck (and her dad’s old costume), Elle’s determined to win…unless her stepsisters get there first. Teen actor Darien Freeman used to live for cons—before he was famous. Now they’re nothing but autographs and awkward meet-and-greets. Playing Carmindor is all he’s ever wanted, but the Starfield fandom has written him off as just another dumb heartthrob. As ExcelsiCon draws near, Darien feels more and more like a fake—until he meets a girl who shows him otherwise.

Was cute, not amazing. Cute premise, a little insta-love.
Was pleased how at the end/epilogue, Elle was visiting Darien for a movie/big deal, and I liked that she was hopeful that their relationship would be successful, but not hinging her life on it--she had realistic expectations and ideas about the difficulties of a famous BF and a long-distance relationship. Was refreshing to not have her be completely over the moon and happily ever after.
a cute summertime read.
we all know the story, but the execution is different (and i like how she executed!). i enjoyed this a lot.
there were some things that threw me off big time, like having starfield exist in a world with all the space shows (doctor who, battlestar galactica, star wars, star trek, etc). i don't think i expected so much of our lives to show up in this book (i think what i was expecting was for made-up shows and movies to be in the book as well). kind of like how harry potter shows up in the book fangirl - simon snow is literally harry potter! like what!
otherwise, this was a great book. if things like that don't bother you, then you will love this cute cinderella retelling.

I checked out Geekerella first and I fell in love!
Now, the book starts off slow. I was utterly bored at first. But, eventually, the story progresses and I became invested in the characters.
This is supposed to be a fairytale retelling of Cinderella. I think it does a pretty accurate job of copying the Disney story. It was almost too exact in my opinion. The other two had subtle similarities, and this one was too on the nose.
The characters are super lovable. It is nice to see how the romance of the two main characters and the side romance play out. The side character romance was really unexpected. It was also LGBTQIA+ and I really appreciated that.
The book is boring, but it does get better. The next two books are better, so do not let this book get you down.
