Such a good list. I've only read 3 and they were each so powerful!! I really wish more people would even just read one so they would know the harsh realities of those in NK and so many other countries
I feel the same, even reading just one helps us understand the oppression and sufferings that shape peopleâs lives in other parts of the world. Three is already a lot, thatâs really impressive.
Yeonmi Park is a bit of a meme at this point and has been accused of misinformation... I'd take her book with a grain of salt.
when you're in a lying competition and your opponent is Yeonmi Park đ©
Thanks for the heads-up! Iâve heard these rumors before, which is exactly why I decided to skip this book entirely. I didnât even realize sheâd become a meme at this point! Iâll pin your comment so anyone looking at this list can see this important context and decide by themselves.
I think her original story is very valid and while i still think she had a shocking life, I can definitely see how she has exaggerated things since gaining popularity
Have you read Every Falling Star? It's more of a YA age range but really great as a beginners look into the horrors of NK.
Wow another memoir of NK defectors published in the early to mid-2010s. I havent heard it before, Iâll add this to the list. Thanks for recs!!
