books where chefs, caterers, restauranteurs, critics, and connoisseurs do cannibalism, or where a prominent theme of the book is food/cooking

Tea! I want to read something with cannibalism. I actually have The Glutton coming to via library, but in this list⦠which would you recommend? Iām a full horror lover and no topic/trigger warning is taboo or too intense for me to read.

i absolutely loved The Glutton, the writing is profound and at times poetic. I really think you'll enjoy it!
On this list, I would HIGHLY recommend What Hunger by Catherine Dang. The storytelling is so well done and I found the narrative both unique and relatable.
I see you've read The Eyes Are The Best Part, and I found that one very disappointing. What Hunger is very similar but WAY better in my opinion.
I haven't read Futility, The Dead Husband's Cookbook, or The Land of Milk and Honey yet but maybe I'll follow up and let you know if I recommend any of those after I read them! Overall I can confirm that most of these books are, at the very least, fun reads that feature some interesting body horror and unique takes on cannibalism, but What Hunger is undoubtedly my favorite on this list.
Okay cool thanks! I remember seeing The Glutton not long after reading Süskindās Perfume, which seems like The Glutton is good what Perfume is scent. Perfume is a 5 star for me, so Iām looking forward to continuing obsessive novels xD.
What Hunger is the one I was going to pick! I keep seeing the raspberry everywhere so itās probably the universe smacking me in the head to read it. I thought Kimās šļø book was okay. The ending felt so short and abrupt that it left me wanting. Iāve been procrastinating with What Hunger because the books do seem similar.

omg I read Perfume and the Glutton almost consecutively! Perfume IS SO fantastic, I could totally see The Glutton embodying the scent of Suskind's writing. You have great taste lol
I felt the same way about What Hunger at first. My expectations were pretty low, also in part because it's about a young teenager and usually I don't like reading about kids/teens. But I ended up really enjoying it, and I wish it had the same hype that Kim's book does.
Well then I look forward to helping change that. The book is on its way.
(And thanks about the taste comment! I really need to get back into horror. Your tastes are an inspiration.)
