The tracking of narrators is so hard that I think I’m just going to let it wash over me. Pretty sure one of them wasn’t exactly human—but honestly… who actually knows. Reading this makes me think I’m going crazy, but I’m having the time of my life simultaneously.

Each chapter is like a scene from a different part of the setting that comes in like in medias res but from a chapter or two ago. Really weird and puzzling.

This book is so twisty. I’m hardly—and probably wrong—who the narrator is at most given points. Lol. It’s challenging but also in a fun way. Just when you think you get the gist of someone, the narrator reveals a whole new aspect of that person. Pretty wild.

I do like how the house is described and sort of characterized in the work. Reminds me of House of Leaves house wise while being a bit like The Last House on Needless Street in narration style.

  • Personal library thoughts.

Like. Okay. I have a small habit of buying too many books. So to cut back on that, I have started to change from just buying the books I want to read, and focus my energy into saving up to buy special editions and hardcovers of the series that I know I absolutely adore as like an actual collection.

I'm thinking of making more use with libraries, the internet archive, etc for reading itself.

I will admit there is no actual question, I just want other people's thoughts about this and maybe some recs on other places to get the books I'm interested in.

  • Summary of the book in reviews

I have always wondered why do some people start their reviews with a whole paragraph summarizing the book? When I'm going through reviews, I have already read the official summary so I don't need to read ten other versions of it. Is it only because people copy-paste what they wrote on their blog where there is no initial context for the book? Wouldn't it make sense to remove this part where you're posting on any book review sites? I just struggle to understand (note that I ask this question purely by curiosity, no judgment for people who do that! 🫣)

Lol I can't believe Mary Roach interviewed Dr. Oz. I didn't realize that he was an actual practicing doctor, apparently this was published before he started making TV appearances and spouting pseudoscience.
