Yeah, I’d say these definitely shaped me as a reader. I’m 18 now, and as I’m graduating I wanted to put this list together as a reflection for my younger self, like a snapshot of the books that stuck with me beyond just being assignments. The fact that I still remember them says a lot about the impact they had on me. Some really changed how I see things, and others helped me figure out what I enjoy reading. It’s honestly really interesting to compare across generations too, what overlaps and what feels different.
Congratulations!! You sound like you're heading into adulthood with a great head on your shoulders and a lot of emotional maturity. I love seeing the overlap in our lists. Just the other day, I was telling my friend's 12yo son about Hatchet. Talk about a book that sticks with you! What are some of the major highlights on your list for you?
I just created a similar list (I didn't realize yours existed until I found it while looking at lists some of the books I had added to mine were on), but I think I'm probably a bit older than you (I'm 38). It's really interesting to see stuff that a younger Millennial or older Gen Z kid got assigned! Do you feel like these are the books that really shaped you as a reader today?
It’s so hard to choose but most likely the Giver or the Outsiders
Thank you for the amazing compliment! I appreciate you
