love this! i’ve always wanted to get into short story collections. may i recommend The Paper Menagerie and Other Stories by Ken Liu?

oh my goodness, yes! i’ve heard amazing things about Ken Liu’s short stories, just haven’t gotten around to reading them yet. Thank you!

i need to read more solo author collections. the only ones i've seemed to have logged so far are: Nightflyers & Other Stories by George R.R. Martin Dark Tales by Shirley Jackson Different Seasons by Stephen King (technically considered a collection of novellas but still might count?)

đŸ«¶đŸœ thank you for the recommendations, especially the Shirley Jackson! I felt like I needed something by her (because I feel like she’s known for her short stories, right?) but I’ve never read anything by her, so wasn’t sure which one. I didn’t realize George R. R. Martin wrote short stories! Are they in the same GoT universe? How did you like them?

jackson's definitely known for the lottery, which i don't think is in this collection? i wasn't too crazy about the ones that were in dark tales but someone else might enjoy them more! & this collection by grrm is actually scifi/horror; the titular 'nightflyers' was made into a miniseries (and i preferred the series over the story). they're kind of middle-of-the-road specfic for me (it was originally published in the 80s and is very stereotypical 80s scifi), but it was interesting to read non-fantasy from grrm

Spirits Abroad by Zen Cho Everyday Aliens by Polenth Blake

Everyday Aliens sounds so neat! Thank you! (I think Spirits Abroad is already on here!) đŸ«¶đŸœ

Yayy love this! Burning Girls and Other Stories by Veronica Schanoes is on my radar after I loved one of her short stories published in a different anthology

And I think Vandermeer's City of Saints and Madmen is a collection of short stories set in the same world based on the description, but I've not yet read it so i could be wrong!

eta someone i follow on here just read The Clash of Images by Abdelfattah Kilito and it looks to be a collection of stories as well :D

These are all amazing suggestions, thank you so much! (I added Burning Girls and The Clash of Images to my tbr too. Emma Goldman takes tea with Baba Yaga? Stories set in a coastal city of memories? đŸ€© yesssss)
