GenX! That is my favorite run ever 😊😊

All new X-men is next ok my list!

Magneto: Testament is a great start if you plan on reading any era of the X-Men that will include Magneto (which is all eras)

X-Men Grand Design Part One tells the entire Silver Age era of the X-Men in one volume with cool, colored newspaper art. It leads right into X-Men Epic Coll Vol 5: Second Genesis, which is the beginning of the Chris Claremont run.

X-Men vs The Fantastic Four is in the middle of Chris Claremont's decade-long run on X-Men, but it's a great introduction to The Fantastic Four, Psylocke, Rogue, Storm, Dazzler, Longshot, Kitty Pryde, Havok, and Polaris. Many of the rest of the X-Men are injured or away from the team, and everything is explained really well. X-Men Epic Collection vol 15 is the next book in the series.

Generation X Epic Coll Vol 1: Back To School is the introduction to the third generation of mutants. We see gen 1 & gen 2 involved in recruiting/rescuing the team, and then we get thrown into their story. Most of the Generation X books are fun, and they're all collected in the numbered Epic Collections, so it's an easy story to follow.

In 1991, as Chris Claremont was about ready to end his tenure on the X-books, the main X-Men title was officially renamed Uncanny X-Men, and a new X-Men title was released. Each book had a different team of mutants, and a different writer and artist team. X-Men Epic Coll Vol 19: Mutant Genesis is the beginning of this 1990s-era team split, which serves as the inspiration for the X-Men 97 cartoon.

The early Wolverine stories are really dated and repetitive. Wolverine by Greg Rucka is a great set of crime stories that endear you to the character without getting bogged down by lore. From there, you can check out pretty much any Wolverine story.

The Exiles Ultimate Collection Vol 1 is a a book about a bunch of X-Men adjacent characters who hop in and out of alternate Marvel Universes to fix problems in continuity. It's an Easter-egg filled buffet of Marvel's most famous and infamous moments starring a team of mutants from several different dimensions who are introduced to each other and thrown into chaos. The series is wildly inconsistent and becomes annoying by the end, but the first three or so Ultimate Collections are a decent read.

Peter David wrote a goofy, X-Men spin-off, X-Factor, around the time of X-Men Epic Col Vol 19: Mutant Genesis. It's ok, but not a great starting point for anything. But in 2005 he came back to the characters with a new X-Factor By Peter David: The Complete Collection Vol 1 series that served as a humorous noir counterpart to the more grim mutant books. While it gets a little lost close to the end, it's mostly a fantastic book focused on some of the lesser-used mutants.

All New X-Men: Yesterday's X-Men is part of Brian Michael Bendis's run on both X-Men and Uncanny X-Men in the 2010s. To try and repair damaged relationships between mutants, Beast brings the original X-Men team from the 1960s into the 2010s, using time travel. This means there are teenage and thirty-something (because wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey continuity) versions of the same mutants learning about each other and trying to fix their futures/pasts. It's sharp, fun, and with some really crisp art.

House of X/Powers Of X is a wild, continuity-heavy introduction, but it sets up a new status-quo for mutants, and can easily be followed by the cool Dawn Of X series, which followed every X-related book of the era in chronological order so X-Men, Wolverine, Excalibur, X-Factor, X-Force, and many more were all collected together. The Dawn Of X series was followed by the Reign of X* series, and the *Fall of * series before Marvel stopped this style of collection, and went back to having each title collected seperately.

**Ultimate X-Men is part of the rebooted Marvel of the 90s. It is not connected to any stories outside of The Ultimate Universe, so while it connects to books like The Ultimates, Ultimate Spider-Man, and The Ultimate Fantastic Four, it's not connected to any of the other books on this list. It's meant as a late 90s/21st century reimagining of Marvel continuity, and it's equal parts fun and frustrating. But it's a much, much, much more condensed version of Marvel history with some fun reimaginings.
