Classics (modern and old) of all genres that featured Queer characters or storylines or notable queer subtext. Inspired by my lecturer's statement regarding my lit degree reading list: "You don't have to be queer to be a Modernist, but it sure helps!"đ Please comment recs so I can keep adding to this!

Warning to Classics virgins: These books are all products of their respective time periods, and something that once was revolutionary repersentation may look downright offensive to a contemporary audience. Many of these books also include Racism or culturally insensitive steriotypes outside of the to be expected Homophobia. On top of this, several of these books (Angela Carter & Anne Rice, my lovelie, in particular) are incredibly disturbing and have heavy content warnings. Please comment if you'd like TWs for any book!

You're in for a treat- the queer subtext in Moby Dick is barely even subtext, it's practically text. Ishmael keeps saying stuff like "we were in our hearts' honeymoon, he put his arm around me as if I were his wife" and then you'll see some people arguing "they're just pals" đ
