I love this list! Thanks for making it
Some Desperate Glory has an unlikable main character, so the beginning is tough when we don't see much character growth. But the story is interesting and keeps you engaged. And the main character does become more likable by the end. It talks about interesting sci fi concepts like Ann Leckie does in the Ancillary Justice series. It has more of a Hunger Games vibe, though, than an Ann Leckie vibe in my opinion. The Hunger Games vibe comes from a young woman confronting a lot of trauma and tough concepts (genocide, terrorism, rape), although nothing I thought was terribly explicit.
Thanks for that, I’m getting the feeling that the unlikable mc and trama is what’s putting people off, even though the unlikablity sounds deliberate. I might have to check it out.
The unlikability seems deliberate, given how she improves by the end. But the first half is hard to get through, no lie.
What did you think of some desperate glory? I keep hearing mixed reviews but I LOVED a memory called empire and Ann Leckie is one of my favorite authors so now I’m curious.
