Hekate (Hecate) - Goddess of the Crossroads, Witchcraft, Magic, Ghosts, and Necromancy
My current knowledge of Hekate is pretty surface-level, but she is the goddess I am always drawn to the most whenever I encounter her in stories.
For now Iām open to including all kinds of books whether scholarly, retellings, solely about her, or even where she appears as a side character.
Please send your recommendations and insights about this fascinating goddess!

wonderful, powerful list š¤
Iām deepening my work with Hekate, and will be reading many of the books on here! Thank you!
Iām definitely interested to hear about your experience with any of these! Iāve admittedly only read a couple and havenāt yet gone deep.
Will do!! Which ones have you read?
Iāve read A Touch of Darkness years ago which is a romance centered around Persephone and Hades but I really liked Hecate as a side character in it. Iāve seen some pretty valid critiques of the book and writing but I had fun with it years ago š And I more recently read Hekate by Nikita Gill which I enjoyed a lot!
I started reading the Hekate book by Courtney Weber but have it paused. It felt like a long list of facts and statements, and not sure if Iāll return to it or try one of the others.
Such a great list!! Will definitely be reading some of those books. I had thought of doing one for Aphrodite since I really like the few myths I know of her but I haven't been able to find many books. Do you know where I could possibly find some good ones? š
Would love to hear your thoughts as you get through any of these! I donāt offhand know any Aphrodite books, but tbh Reddit was a big source for where I found the books on this list and Iām sure someone somewhere has discussed Aphrodite in books!
oooo YES I love aphrodite!!!! šš my favourite book on her mythology so far has been Venus and Aphrodite: A Biography of Desire by Bettany Hughes!
Thereās also Aphrodite: Encountering the Goddess of Love & Beauty & Initiation and When Aphrodite Calls: A Journey Into Loveās Mysteries (coming out in March 2027) both by Irisanya Moon!
Iāve also enjoyed a poetic journey through her mythology from some of Sapphoās poems, and also Aphrodite Made Me Do It by Trista Mateer.
And the Homeric Hymn to Aphrodite (not a book though) touches on some of her mythology too šš
Thanks for the recommendations! Keeping an eye out for the March 2027 release since it's my bday month. š
