these are books which, at the bare minimum, take place on a boat, or follow events which occur before, during, and after a sailing expedition or shipwreck. And, as always, cannibalism is either present or mentioned in the text. I want to strongly emphasize that most, if not all, of these books deal with themes of colonization and imperialism and often include topics like slavery and racism. Read with your critical thinking hat on and pay attention to the role cannibalism plays in these stories, because it is a genuinely fascinating lense through which to look at the history of imperialism.
