I was wondering what everyone's thoughts on novellas (that are part of a series) are? Personally, when I find a new series to look into, I've noticed my brain automatically just filters out any books with a .5 - I use Goodreads to see the order of books and how many there are - and look for the main books. I think I might read a novella if I LOVED the main story, but whether they follow side characters (even if they're my favourite) or elaborate on the main, I'm just not typically interested. Like, I don't feel a NEED to read them.
Do you always read them? Do you skip? Depends?

Morally grey or straight up baddies? A collection of books written from a villainous/morally grey POV. Only the first book from a series is included.

Incredible prose and characterization accumulating in a bittersweet end to a fantastic trilogy. I understand the mixed feelings towards the ending but personally feel like it fits right in, this is not the kind of story where a perfectly happy ending would make sense. Hobb writes very human characters, not flawless heroes and that's what kept me hooked. Sometimes I wanted to yell at Fitz for being dense and stubborn, sometimes I just wanted to hug him and sob.
He and everyone else were allowed to grow but at the end of the day they are still people who will continue to make mistakes.
When I first started the series I thought the Skill and the Wit were interesting but rather simple and was proven wrong again and again. It's such a complex magic that I'm looking forward to learning more about in the next series. Onto Liveship Traders! Tho I will miss Fitz, the fool, Nighteyes (!!) and everyone else dearly until Tawny Man.

While browsing the recommendation sections of a few books recently I noticed that a lot of the time the recommendations include books further into the series instead of or more so than other books/series with a similar vibe and I'm curious about the community sentiment towards that.
Personally I feel like the recs should be more for those instead of just more from the same series, as a reader will usually be aware that the next books exists and especially for long series actual new recommendations get buried a bit. On other platforms I use recommendations to find more books I will probably enjoy after I have finished a series and initially expected to find the same here.
I believe it's probably an issue with how you currently can't effectively look at all books in a series directly from one book in it, which will probably get implemented better in the future.
But how does everyone else feel about that? Please let me know your thoughts. 🫶🏼

Hello 👋🏽 Salut 👋🏽
Are there any French readers or speakers ? I know this platform is mostly based in the U.S., but it would be so fun to connect with other francophone readers 🤩
Alors, dis-moi quel est ton roman francophone préféré ? Le livre que tu veux toujours recommander, mais que tu as pas la chance parce que tu connais juste des lecteurs anglophones?

Whether it's sci-fi or fantasy, you like a big series. You love when a book says 1 of 5/10/50+. Is the reading order of the series hotly debated? Is there a wiki chart to show how the books connect? Even better. Come spend some time in these worlds.

A collection of the pilot books for popular series, for those of us who love to follow a character's journey for as long as an author will let us! Some of the below series have heavily debated starting points and book read orders--in those cases the pilot was selected based on what seems to be the most popular approach.
