What is your go to genre, and why? Also, what is a genre you don't actually read super often, but when you do, you always wonder why you don't read it all the time?

Do you have a preference in language with the books you read? My first language is Filipino, more specifically Tagalog, but as my family and I moved to Singapore at my tender age of 10, English has been more prominent in my everyday life. I can understand, speak, and read Tagalog in more casual settings but struggle to process in literature as it's "deeper" and above my comfortable reading level. I've always wanted to finish a book in Tagalog though, so I picked up Bata Bata Pano Ka Ginawa! So far I didnt realise i was reading the Foreword until I was 2 pages in, and have asked my parents what are certain words twice lmao I'm a big mood reader so I haven't picked it up again but it's my personal challenge to finish it this year.

How do you do it?! JK. As someone who just looks at a book and goes, "I wanna read you," it can get overwhelming. It feels like I’m running out of time even though I'm not, and I know I'm not obligated to read every single book I find interesting (insert that Rory Gilmore clip here). So my question is: since y'all have a smaller TBR, how often does a book actually turn out to be at least good? I know it's probably impossible to love every book on your list, but I'm guessing that because you're more selective when adding to your TBR, most of them end up being at least good or okay?

I thought it would be kind of fun to see where in the world people are, and then folks can make friends with people from the same countries/ares (if they way, not pressure obviously). I'll go first. I'm Canadian, and more specifically I am in British Columbia (Vancouver Island if you want to get fancy). Try to find your country and join that thread! Everyone else?

Hello again!🤗 Today I was thinking about how excited I am to do a year wrap up when the year ends (obviously 🤣) and I want to ask you the same questions I asked my self, so here they go: 1- What's your favorite book of the year so far? 2- Which book/books you were so hyped for but ended up being a disappointment? 3- Which new author/authors you found out this year and feel in love with? 4- Which book/books you thought you would give 1 star but ended up giving 4/5 stars? 5- How close are you to complete your reading challenge (if you have one)? I hope everyone has a nice weekend and thank you for letting be your very curious book friend 🤣🫶

Dramatic battles, tense political intrigue, unique world building...and is that maybe some romance I'm sensing? These books are not Romantasy but focus primarily on the SFF elements. Romance is a subplot and may not appear until later in the series, but when it does, you won't be disappointed.

An introduction to the Fantasy genre, these books are part of the cultural zeitgeist or the 'canon' that many would recognize. Look for more niche titles in later Starter Pack volumes.

This is one of those series that goes downhill with each book for me. I enjoyed the first book very much; the second book wasn't as good, but still enjoyable. Unfortunately the last book lost me. Some of the writing felt a bit childish / cringey and I really had no interest in Harristan's POVs. I skimmed a lot of the chapters to the end just to know what happens, but my attention was not recaptured. Tessa and Corrick's story is quite sweet, but nothing mind blowing and I'm sad I didn't love the full trilogy as much as I hoped. I do love the covers, but unfortunately this will not be series that stays on my shelves.

Is it just me or do you guys also rate cheap or library borrowed books better? I find myself being harsher to books I paid good money for because if you disappoint me I just wasted 15-25€ - but when it’s cheap I can read without pressure. Usually bought books also have a certain expectation behind them and if I find something second hand/borrow it’s usually more experimental and casual. Slightly different conversation: Not buying books also means for me that there is a delay in when I can read the most popular books in online spaces because my library here (understandably) buys them in german, as I’m in germany, and the translation does and should take a certain amount of time ((Edit: doubting myself rn, don’t I gaslight myself to like the bought books because otherwise I have to live with wasted money ??))

Could you stop yourself from adding more books to your TBR for a specified amount of time? Maybe I could go a month without, if I avoid reading reviews? Or limit myself to adding one book a month and be really picky about it? I just have this existential dread about not being able to finish my list before I die and I feel like the only way I'd be able to get through it is to stop adding! 🥲
