I love reading the different ways that writers portray the mind of a child. Sometimes I find something really familiar in it, and it reminds me of aspects of my own childhood that I might have somewhat forgotten⊠and other times, I wonder what kind of a sociopathic childhood other people had, and Iâm made more afraid of children. đ

This is a short but sweet story, full of stormy wintry atmosphere, and a gentle reminder of the point of human life, which encourages us to be useful and sacrifice our comfort for the sake of others. This is the sort of book I can see myself rereading every December.
My only criticism is that the ending was a little bit abrupt.
âIs humanityâs task, perhaps the only one, to find a way. Never to give up. To kick against goads, no matter how sharp they are. To kick against the very goad of death, until it pierces through and strikes the heart.â
