A whimsical bookfairy who loves fantasy, historically accurate fiction, sprinkled with some non-fiction gems. I sometimes share album or music pairings with books too :3

    Enjoyment: Quality: Characters: Plot:

Unfortunately cannot recommend this book/series any longer. Original review below.

This book is unlike anything I’ve read before. I think it’s best to go into it knowing very little. The first half is set in the past where you see Lena fall in love. Halfway through the book, it jumps ahead 5 years and everything has changed. Her love believes she is dead and has moved on and gotten married. Until he finds Lena again, but this time at the end of his sword.

Very few books have kept me as glued to my kindle as this one (Im talking ACOTAR and Fourth Wing-level couldn’t put it down). If I had to describe it, it’s like ACOTAR meets The Legacy series by Melissa K. Roehrich. Definitely make sure to check the trigger warnings as there is on-page SA. That being said, don’t let the other woman drama scare you.

If I have one critique it’s that I can’t figure out what setting this story is supposed to be in. At the start, it feels like a typical old timey fantasy where people don’t have electricity, but then there were random electronic-type things that would be mentioned and showers etc. But no one has cars or phones. It has made it nearly impossible for me to picture what the world looks like. I’m hoping the next books make that more clear.
