This started so well! It had a bit of all my favourite things, haunted houses, a bit of gothic, supernatural, social class and post colonialism critique… but unfortunately the end felt a bit shallow. I did not particularly enjoyed the style either but the story kept me very intrigued until the end. I feel like it could have been so much more, deepening more in some of its interesting themes which lost prominence and presence as the book advanced , the ending was so uninteresting. Sorry.

Call me a basic but I love Susan Hill’s eerie and horror novels. The stories are quite simple but feel like true classic horror books. She creates amazing spooky atmospheres which completely surround the reader.

Very gentle and contemplative story of how two apparent opposites can cohabit without even touching each other. Shiva and the teacher’s relationship is beautiful, same as the style, drawings and overall soft gothic themes. It feels very slow, but I think that’s the point? It gets very interesting towards the end so I’ll be definitely continuing the saga.

This is a heart-wrenching story about three women and their connection throughout time. The story is entertaining enough but not very original or surprising. I felt like all women in all the stories faced the same problems, which was super repetitive. I was really only interested in Altha’s story as the other two were super predictable and lacked any sense of story development, climax, problem to resolve. I would recommend it as a cute story about witches and women’s interconnected stories.

Interesting ghost story that leaves the reader with more questions at the end than before starting the novel. I am not sure what I was expecting from this book but it wasn’t this so I am left a bit underwhelmed. The eerie atmosphere and the unsettling children are there but the over wordy narration and lack of any conclusion/answers left me a bit cold. I had to look up possible analysis and interpretations and didn’t really like any of them.

Entertaining story but I fear is not going to be out of this world. I don’t like the chapters being this short

Just the prologue by itself is so atmospheric, haunting, eerie and tense… this is going to be so good!

Well, that was a wild ride. There were many red flags, and yet, like Ro, it was easy to be like "surely that won't end up to be as sinister as possible... right?"

Took me a few days to process this. Didn’t know it was going to be this type of horror so I am still in shock! It was amazing though. Wasn’t sure about the very informal and americanised style at first but it makes total sense. A proper cheesy rom-com that goes downhill very quickly. It raises a lot of questions about red flags, trust and romantic vs idealised love. Do we act differently if the interest is female or male? Do we spot red flags more easily in men than women? We are all quite informed and ready to call out strange behaviours in heterosexual relationships but, are sapphic relationships idealised and therefore more biased to justify them?
