This book was such a whirlwind; the audiobook definitely added to that chaotic tone. I think Jennet did a perfect job portraying what itâs really like to be in that high school age range. She genuinely tapped into that mindset. Even though I couldnât exactly relate to Waldoâs story, there are things in that ârelationshipâ dynamic with Mr. Korgy that I think every woman/girl can unfortunately relate to, it was such an anxiety inducing read at times the layers of emotions were so well portrayed, like you just got it. I wonât lie, some of the descriptions in the book were giving me full body chills it felt raw and real. I love this quote from Waldo the rage she expresses is so relatable and I just thought it was put so perfectly this emotion sheâs feeling âDid you know this is the first time youâve cried in front of me? This is why I donât cry in front of others, because people like Franny use tears as a fucked-up currency. They mistake tears for a compliment for their hand-holding. The tears make them feel bigger, then better, then make them think youâre weak, vulnerable, and your weakness gives them something to do, something to feel power over.â I just love the way she expresses rage In this way.

Oh my god, I love this book so much, like I canât even put it into words. Iâm so upset itâs over not technically, but just that the reading experience is over. This was the most engaged Iâve been with a fantasy book in a long time. I was transported there; I genuinely watched this like a whole entire movie. I have such deep, deep feelings for every single character. The amount of times I actually shed tears is obscene happy, sad, even at a great quote, it literally didnât matter. Also the gasped I gasped truly Iâm not okay, thanks for asking. Everything was so well thought out and executed; also, the yearning and the tension were absolutely on point. I love them so much I can't. I definitely was not familiar with Miss Rachel Gilligâs game. I canât wait till September for the follow up.

I love how Alyson narrated the audiobook; it added so much depth and heart and a level of rawness that was heartbreaking.Going from experience to experience was very hard but necessary, I love how she breaks down these walls of our perceptions of child stars or just stars in general. Itâs something most, if not all, of us can speak to enjoying the fruits of their labors in childhood and how for many of us itâs a cornerstone of happiness, and for them it was anything but. I love how in depth she goes to change the environment so that child stars are protected and cared for. I absolutely admire Alyson and what she is doing.

This book was chaotic and really made me think. Itâs a sad, complicated story that left me in tears. It highlights what happens when society doesnât allow people to be themselves and the inappropriate ways that can manifest. The whole situation with the cousins made me uncomfortable, and those feelings linger. Still, itâs a tragic scenario that shows deep love between them. I felt so much empathy for Nnemdi and the turmoil she experienced, which even made her physically sick. It was heartbreaking, and I felt for the entire friend group, especially Osita. In the West, we often overlook our privilege. Being true to yourself shouldnât be a privilege; it should be a right. I know the LGBTQIA+ community faces real dangers, and itâs tragic to see how Nnemdiâs life in Nigeria is so restricted not even being able to have long hair without truly fearing for your life. Iâm grateful this book gave me a new perspective. This story will stick with me for a long time.
