Oh no, ChatGPT entered the book 💀 The Em dashes significantly increased, to the point where it’s like every other paragraph. Main character is being insufferable and her fears and motivations are so underdeveloped and lazy.

The worst part is how COOL the world is, but none of it is explored or enjoyed. And I can’t STAND that MC mentions how long ago she was at this island every ten minutes and how she remembers nothing when she was 9 when they moved with her family ???

If you were 3, sure, but this would be a fourth grader like come onnn 😭🤌🏽

❗️EDIT❗️: Guys, I love em dashes and use it in my own writing, but it was hard for me to pretend with this section of the book that is so dramatically different from her writing before, which I did enjoy! Thanks for all the thoughts 🫶🏽 this comment section got very heated and I’m not sure my thoughts, not review, that aren’t even of the whole book, just this section, deserves that 😩 I wrote this review at midnight and I woke up to being called rude, being sent to jail, and more. I absolutely agree that an author CAN use AI as a literary tool, but I’m allowed to notice that, right? We are all thirsty for organic writing in this desert that the book-sphere has become. Critiquing is valuable and important for a million reasons, and saying I’m just wrong is not stepping into the discourse. If you have questions or comments, I’d love to hear them, but please don’t attack my character for worrying about a very real issue in 2025.

What a beautiful book 🥺 (story and illustration wise). I really enjoyed it. Felt like a barbie movie / Jane Austen mashup.
